Chargers Sign Former Raiders LB Korey Toomer

The San Diego Chargers bolstered their depth at linebacker on Wednesday, signing ILB Korey Toomer off the Oakland Raiders practice squad. He replaces Manti Te'o, who was officially placed on the Reserve-Injured list with a torn Achilles.

Toomer has appeared in 18 career games since being selected in the fifth round (154th overall) by the Seattle Seahawks in 2012.  After two years on their practice squad, where he won a Super Bowl ring, he split time on the active roster for the St. Louis Rams and Dallas Cowboys in 2014 before playing in 10 games for the Raiders a year ago.

The 6-2, 234-pound Toomer played in all four preseason games for Oakland this year, registering 19 tackles and one forced fumble. He began his collegiate career at Arizona Western College before transferring to Idaho.  Toomer finished with 77 tackles, four sacks, three interceptions and five passes defensed in 25 career games with the Vandals.
