The Chargers got a visit from a former Super Bowl MVP on their final day of training camp.
Wide receiver Julian Edelman was on hand as the Bolts closed off their camp practices last week, getting a chance to see the team up close ahead of the regular season.
The 11-year veteran, who is now a member of the media, said part of his reason for his visit was because he wanted to get a firsthand view of the team ahead of what he believes is an exciting year for Jim Harbaugh’s squad.
"You want to see where that leap is going to go after making the playoffs in the first year," Edelman told Chargers.com. "Getting more of the type of players he wants in his system, his scheme, his building is always a huge jump when a coach is coming in."
There were a number of things Edelman had his sights on his visit, too.
While he is interested to see who else steps up on the Bolts defense, the receiver of course had his eye on what the offense will look like in Year 2.
Quarterback Justin Herbert is the headliner for the group as he gets another season in the same system, but Edelman said he's excited to see how the run game shakes out after selecting a running back in the first round.
"I want to see the offense," Edelman said. "I want to see Justin Herbert with another year, I want to see Omarion Hampton. Getting that ball going forward and running the football, they got Najee Harris as well.
"They got two really good running backs… I'm excited for that," he added.
Of course, the former receiver couldn't leave out Ladd McConkey after the rookie season he put together.

Count Edelman as a fan of the young Bolts receiver who had a historic rookie season and quickly built a rapport with Herbert.
Edelman said there were a number of things that stood out to him about McConkey, including how quickly he was able to leverage his advantages against opposing defenses.
"He's got a good feel for situational football," Edelman said about McConkey. "He makes a lot of plays on third down. You could tell he works really hard, he's got elite quickness so he's a matchup problem when he's in the slot getting matchups against linebackers, being too quick for safeties, third corners. They start putting their good corners.
"He's got a lot of space to work and he's shown he can do that, he's on the same page with Justin which is ultimately the number one thing you have to be if you want to be a slot receiver," Edelman added.
And he's looking forward to what the young pass catcher has in store in his second season.
"I'm excited, Year 2 is always a huge jump for everything, all players," Edelman said. "Being familiar with the system, being familiar with the environment, being familiar with the players allows him to get more creative with his work. I'm excited to watch him."
While Edelman admitted he's not one to give predictions, he does have a lot of expectations for the Chargers to build on the previous season.
After a playoff berth in Year 1, Edelman believes they will be in the hunt for the AFC West title in 2025.
"They got to come off and build on the year they had last year," Edelman said. "Without a doubt you know they're going to be competitive.
"I expect them to be very good. They got the quarterback, they got the coach, they got a good first round running back," Edelman added. "There's a lot of good things to build off the thing they had the year before. I expect them to compete for the division."
