Why the Chargers Have Top 10 Roster After 1st Wave of Free Agency

Bleacher Report ranked the Chargers roster at No. 9 overall when stacking them up against the rest of the NFL

There's been plenty of movement around the NFL as teams continue to remake their rosters in free agency.

Where does Chargers roster stack up against the rest of the league at this point of the offseason?

Bleacher Report's Moe Moton broke down every NFL roster over a week removed from the first wave of free agency, focusing on player talent and their production but not taking coaching staffs into account.

And Moton slotted in the Bolts at No. 9 overall in his roster rankings, which was fourth-best in the AFC. Moton noted the Bolts has built itself to be a strong unit with depth on both sides.

Moton sees the Chargers as one of the teams "on the rise," starting with their offense led by quarterback Justin Herbert that has plenty of impact players and an offensive line slated to get back some top-tier stars in 2026.

Moton wrote:

When healthy, the Chargers have one of the league's best offensive lines, but we didn't see the starting unit together last season. Rashawn Slater sat out the 2025 term with a ruptured patellar tendon. Joe Alt missed 11 contests because of injuries.

With those two Pro Bowlers back on the field, Los Angeles should field a more efficient passing attack and physical ground game, which means wide receiver Ladd McConkey and running back Omarion Hampton could see spikes in their production.

Take a look back at the best photos of the Chargers best arrival fits of the 2025 season.

Another year of Herbert with Slater and Alt could mean nothing but great things, not to mention the number of young skill players who are ascending on offense.

Add in a couple of new faces who could make immediate impacts in Tyler Biadasz, Charlie Kolar and Keaton Mitchell, to name a few, and the Bolts offense could be a much more explosive unit in all phases in 2026.

And Moton said to also not over look the Bolts defense, too.

The Chargers have brought back a number of impact players such as Khalil Mack and Teair Tart, as well as a veteran presence on the interior in Dalvin Tomlinson.

The Bleacher Report analyst sees the defense continuing it's level of play while the offense becomes dangerous, putting the Chargers in good shape overall.

Moton wrote:

Star pass-rusher Khalil Mack is back on a one-year deal. He'll continue to pair with Pro Bowler Tuli Tuipulotu on the edge. Derwin James Jr., an eight-year veteran, is still a Pro Bowl-caliber safety. Ball-hawking cornerback Donte Jackson doesn't have resumé accolades, though he's recorded nine interceptions over the last two years.

Watch out for the Chargers' offense when it's healthy. Los Angeles' defense will be just fine despite the loss of defensive coordinator Jesse Minter, who took the Baltimore Ravens' head-coaching job.
