Chargers Jump Into Top 10 in Week 2 NFL Power Rankings

PowerRankingsWeek2LV

The Chargers opened the regular season with a win to start 1-0.

The Bolts are on the road in Week 2 as they travel to Las Vegas to take on the Raiders on Monday Night Football. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. (PT).

NFL analysts and publications have released their weekly power rankings. Take a look at where the Bolts are ranked as they enter Week 2.

No. 4: Chad Graff and Josh Kendall – The Athletic (Last Week: No. 12)

[Justin Herbert], the sixth-year QB was a stud against the Chiefs, completing 25 of 34 passes for 318 yards, three touchdowns and no interceptions (not to mention 32 rushing yards). Perhaps Year 2 with Jim Harbaugh is when Herbert elevates into Tier 1 status.

No. 6: Conor Orr Sports Illustrated (Last Week: No. 7)

Vintage Justin Herbert is back, or at the very least, momentarily unholstered while the Omarion Hampton running game takes form. The silver lining of a Rashawn Slater injury making the Chargers less a road grating team is that Herbert will be called upon circa 2021 to conjure some magic.

No. 6: Vinnie Iyer – Sporting News (Last Week: No. 10)

The Chargers got over the hump with Justin Herbert not letting a lead go late and they showed how explosive the offense can be even with the running game working out kinks. Jim Harbaugh has developed a real threat to win the AFC in a hurry.

No. 6: Mike Florio – Pro Football Talk (Last Week: No. 15)

Jim Harbaugh is bringing out the badass in Justin Herbert.

No. 6: Frank Schwab Yahoo Sports (Last Week: No. 11)

Justin Herbert looked like a legitimate MVP candidate. Keenan Allen was a smart addition late in the offseason. Beating the Chiefs was a great way to start the season. L.A. was a big winner in Week 1.

No. 7: Pete Prisco – CBS Sports (Last Week: No. 16)

Justin Herbert was outstanding in beating the Chiefs, which serves notice to the rest of the AFC that this team might be a Super Bowl contender. Jim Harbaugh can flat out coach.

No. 7: Nate Davis – USA Today (Last Week: No. 18)

Still, the outcome was just as notable given Harbaugh, a 3 yards and a cloud of dust guy (if not an Ohio State guy) if there ever was one, watched his team pass 60% of the time in Week 1.

No. 8: Ralph Vacchiano Fox Sports (Last Week: No. 11)

That was a statement win on Friday night in Brazil for Jim Harbaugh and Justin Herbert. They proved to be a threat to the Chiefs by beating them, and Herbert showed his elite side. Consider the Chargers a real contender.

No. 9: Kris Knox – Bleacher Report (Last Week: No. 10)

Herbert's mobility also helped put the Chiefs away, and his play is a big reason why Los Angeles can have realistic Super Bowl dreams this season. There isn't much he can't do, and he'll have the chance to do it all in 2025.

With new (and returning) pieces in the lineup, Greg Roman's offense has a chance to be far more dynamic than last year's. Coupled with a talented, well-coached defense, that makes L.A. a team poised to build on last year's success.

No. 9: NFL Nation – Kris Rhim – ESPN (Last Week: No. 14)

Best newcomer performance: WR Keenan Allen

Allen is technically a newcomer. But he spent his first 11 seasons with the Chargers before the team traded him to the Bears last season following a contract dispute. He finished with seven catches for 68 yards and a touchdown, which came on an out route that left him wide open. The score was the 60th of his career with the Chargers, making him the third player to reach that mark in franchise history.

No. 9: Diante Lee – The Ringer (Last Week: No. 14)

Friday night was a clinic from Los Angeles's franchise quarterback—he totally controlled the game from the pocket and played his best football in the fourth quarter to close out the win. The Chargers still make me nervous because of some of the problems they have on the roster, but Herbert is dialed in at the moment, and that clearly raises this team's ceiling.

No. 10: Dan Wilkins – theScore (Last Week: No. 13)

Justin Herbert is an elite QB. The Chargers' star signal-caller putting on a show in a standalone game Friday in Brazil is an excellent development for the always reasonable and never insufferable QB discourse.

No. 13: Eric Edholm – NFL.com (Last Week: No. 14)

Quentin Johnston also came up big and might yet be a true difference-maker. I was kind of fading this team a bit in the preseason after the season-ending injury to Rashawn Slater, who's a tremendous player, but watching Joe Alt at left tackle in Week 1 made me feel a whole lot better.
