NFL Draft talk is starting to heat up.

With All-Star events going on throughout the country this week, NFL.com's Daniel Jeremiah unveiled his initial top 50 rankings that gave a glimpse of where things stand heading into February.

The list will fluctuate from now until late April when the draft kicks off in Pittsburgh, but an early takeaway is that Jeremiah believes there's no lean to offense or defense.

His top 50 list is split evenly with 25 players on both sides of the ball, but the top 10 leans slightly toward defense with six players.

Jeremiah's top-ranked player is Indiana quarterback Fernando Mendoza, followed by Notre Dame running back Jeremiyah Love at No. 2. Ohio State edge rusher Arvell Reese, Texas Tech edge rusher David Bailey and Ohio State linebacker Sonny Styles round out the top five.

As for which position group is the strongest near the top, the overwhelming leading position is wide receivers.

There's a total of 11 receivers, starting at No. 7 with USC's Makai Lemon, in the top 50. The next most position is edge rushers with eight, led by Reese at No. 3.

It is then followed by seven offensive tackles, the first being Utah's Spencer Fano at No. 12.

In terms of other trends, it is shaping up to be a strong defensive tackle and cornerback class near the top as well, as Jeremiah had five of each position.

The draft analyst also released his first 2026 NFL mock draft of the offseason prior to his top 50 list, pairing the Chargers with a defensive player.

Jeremiah mocked Texas Tech defensive tackle Lee Hunter to the Bolts at No. 22. Hunter was his No. 26 overall player and top-ranked player at his position.

Jeremiah wrote:

Hunter is one of my early draft crushes. He has outstanding size, quickness and the ability to disrupt.

The Chargers currently have five picks in the 2026 NFL Draft, which will be held in Pittsburgh.
