The Chargers are on the road against the Tennessee Titans as they reach the midway point of the 2025 season.
Kickoff is at 10 a.m. (PT) from Nissan Stadium in Nashville.
The Chargers-Titans betting line shows the Bolts are the favorites for Sunday.
Here are five final thoughts ahead of Week 9.
1. Avoid the trap game
All it takes is a quick glance at the standings to get a barometer of where the Chargers and Titans sit at the halfway point of the 2025 season.
At 5-3, the Bolts have playoff aspirations for the second straight season under Chargers Head Coach Jim Harbaugh, and also have their sights set on a potential AFC West crown.
The Titans, meanwhile, are 1-7 after having the first pick in the 2025 NFL Draft and fired their coach earlier this month.
With a road game and an early start on the docket against a team that's near the bottom of the league, Harbaugh was asked how his team has looked this week.
"We're going to have to play good," Harbaugh said. "It's going to take us coming back [from Thursday's win], regrouping, refitting and getting ready to play at a good level.
"It's one thing that has been proven, not only this year but over the course of the history of the National Football League, you've got to play good to win these games," Harbaugh added. "That's where our focus is."
It was only a month ago when the Chargers faced a similar situation. They were 3-0 and headed east to play the Giants, who at the time were 0-3.
New York blitzed the Bolts early by building a 10-point lead before holding on late to hand the Chargers their first loss of the season.
Cornerback Cam Hart said the Chargers locker room wants to "learn from experience" heading into Week 9.
"The Giants, obviously, we gave them a lot of momentum," Hart said. "You can't disrespect anybody. You have to treat everybody the same, prepare for everybody the same. It's the NFL and you know everyone's good regardless of the record."
"I'm sure they have a bad taste in their mouth with how they played so they're going to come out and give us their biggest shot," Hart added about the Titans.
A win would move the Chargers to 6-3 and increase their current playoffs chances from 75 to 79 percent, according to The Athletic. NFL Next Gen Stats currently has the Bolts with 67 percent odds to make the playoffs, with a win bumping that figure to 74 percent.
Look for Harbaugh to have his squad ready to go as the Chargers look to start the second half of the season on a high note.
"They seemed locked in and ready to roll," Harbaugh said about his team. "I'd be surprised if they weren't. Huge game because it's the next game."
2. Cam Hart on the rise
The Chargers will be without Tarheeb Still on Sunday as the second-year cornerback is out with a knee injury.
Good thing Hart, the Bolts other second-year cornerback, is rounding into form.
Hart was on point against the Vikings last week, recording a career-best three passes defensed while lined up against Justin Jefferson for most of the night. And while Jefferson had seven catches for 74 yards, it was a quiet game for the star wide receiver.
"I feel like I played well. I put some good things on tape," Hart said this week. "Obviously, I'm my biggest critic, so I feel like there's things that I did leave out there.
"But just based on just the stat sheet and us winning and how we played as a defense, I feel like I did my job," Hart added. "I want to build on that and stack on that."
Chargers Defensive Coordinator Jesse Minter concurred with Hart's assessment.
"Definitely his best game," Minter said. "Just most consistent, detailed, disciplined with leverage, what he was trying to take away, his ability to finish, he made some really nice pass breakups.
"Knowing where his help was, playing with confidence, playing, I call it 'Cam Hart football.' Just play Cam Hart football. He's a press corner that when he's up there and he's confident, he can cover a lot of people in this league," Minter continued.
"When he starts guessing a little bit or trying to see too much, like, 'Dude, just be you. Be the best version of you.' And he did that," Minter added. "There's always a play or two you want back, but overall I thought it was hopefully a preview to come of how I think he's going to play the second half of the year."
Hart and Still were both drafted in the fifth round of the 2024 NFL Draft and both played key roles as rookies.
With Still out for at least one game, Hart will be called upon to help lead the cornerback group for the time being.
"Regardless of who's playing, who's in the game, I treat every game the same," Hart said. "Obviously, [Still] is a big piece of our defense, but my approach to the game, my approach to practice, my approach to my preparation is always the same whether I'm the fifth corner on the depth chart or the first corner on the depth chart."
Finally, Still's absence means that rookie Nikko Reed could see his first extended action in the NFL.

3. Watching Ward
The No. 1 pick we mentioned above?
The Titans used it to take quarterback Cam Ward, who began the season as the starter and has played in all eight of Tennessee's games to date.
The rookie has thrown for 1,615 yards with five touchdowns and six interceptions, but has also been sacked a league-high 34 times.
The Chargers are well-aware of Ward's skillset, including a lively arm he isn't afriad to use.
"He's got all the arm talent in the world. You could tell they're rallying the troops over there," Khalil Mack said. "It's going to be another challenge for us this week."
Minter added: "He's got elite arm talent. When he sees a dig route open and rips it in there, it's really impressive. Just like any rookie, there's things he does really well, there's things he may continue to get better at. I think for us, it's really about us and how we play. Trying to make him uncomfortable, trying to not let him get in rhythm."
Ward's athleticism and scrambling ability will also be something to watch, but the goal for the Chargers will be to pressure him early and let the 23-year-old know it's going to be. along afternoon.
"There's a coolness, there's a presence there. The throws he makes are really good," Harbaugh said. "Probably the thing that stands out the most is the timing he's developed with his receivers in a very short time. Very efficient. Pretty darn dynamic."
4. A look at the O-line
Joe Alt's return was a major boost for the Chargers in Week 8.
"It's just that obvious how great of a player he is. Great to have him back," Harbaugh said.
Entering Week 9, however, the focus is on the right side of the Chargers offensive line, where right guard Mekhi Becton is questionable to play with a knee injury.
If Becton can't go, look for Foster Sarell to step in like he did for 68 snaps against the Vikings.
"It's huge to be able to have a guy like that," Justin Herbert said of Sarell. "He's been able to step in at tackle, at guard. I'm sure he could play center if we needed him to.
"He just knows the offense really well and is a guy we know is going to go out there and make a play and do his best to give me as much time to get the ball off," Herbert added. "He's a guy you trust, a great locker room guy and great teammate."
The Chargers also have options at right tackle, where Bobby Hart has started the past three games in place of Trey Pipkins III, who has been battling a knee injury.
While it's unclear on which player will start, Chargers Offensive Coordinator Greg Roman praised Hart's adaptability of late. Before this season, Hart last started a game in 2021 and hadn't appeared in a game since 2022.
"Man, Bobby Hart. Big-time performance," Roman said. "The word that just starts flashing in neon in my head is 'performance.' He gets out there and does his job down-in and down-out.
"He got in here real recently and we're still working through some things operationally," Roman added. "But he understands all the little different things we need to try and improve on. But man oh man, Coach gave him a game ball the other night and it was well earned."

5. Win on 3rd down
Looking for an area that could determine Sunday's game?
Keep an eye on third downs, an area that is obviously crucial in a game, but feels extra important given the offensive discrepancy between the teams.
The Chargers enter Week 9 with the NFL's top third-down offense at 48.67 percent.
What has gone into that success?
"That's something we want to continue to build on," Roman said. "I feel like we've got some really good pieces and you know guys are working hard on it.
"We put a lot into third downs, like we do all situations, but things have been good for us so far, we've just got to keep pressing the envelope," Roman added.
Herbert credited the offensive line for giving him time — to either pass or run — as Herbert's scrambling ability has been noticeable on third downs halfway through the year.
The Chargers quarterback gave a long and detailed answer when asked this week about the third-down production.
"I think it's a combination of a few things. I think it goes into protection, first off," Herbert said. "Having a great protection plan and understanding, you know, what the threats are that the defense is going to bring against you and where you're sliding to and whether you're using on the tight end, running back or how you're getting the ball out.
"So, I think we've done a really good job with that," Herbert continued. "[Bradley Bozeman] has led that group and I think they've really moved as one.
"Whether you're throwing a bunch of different pieces out there, they've battled and done such a great job working together. I think it starts there," Herbert added. "Then you add in those receivers, guys on the outside that just make plays and adding a few tight ends that are exceptional players on third down as well.
"Then worst case, go scramble for the first down," Herbert said. "I think that's been really helpful for us."
On the flip side, the Titans third-down offense ranks last in the league at 29.91 percent.
This could be an area the Chargers dominate in and to help cruise to a double-digit win.
