Where is Jim Harbaugh in 2025 NFL Head Coach Rankings?

Jim Harbaugh worked wonders in his first season in Southern California, helping lead the Bolts to an 11-win season and a playoff appearance.

Given his full coaching resumé, it's clear that the Chargers Head Coach is among the best at his job across the league.

But where do pundits have Harbaugh ranked when comparing other NFL head coaches?

Dalton Wasserman of Pro Football Focus recently stacked his top 10 coaches returning to their gigs in 2025 and slotted Harbaugh at No. 6 on his list.

Wasserman wrote:

The primary appeal for Harbaugh taking the Chargers job was quarterback Justin Herbert. Harbaugh and Greg Roman recaptured the magic of Herbert's abilities in their first year on the job. Herbert set career highs last season with a 90.2 PFF passing grade, 7.7 yards per attempt and a 5.7 percent big-time throw rate. Also on the list of accomplishments for Harbaugh is leading [the Chargers] to the third-best PFF grade in the NFL in 2024.

All Jim Harbaugh knows is success, and he's carried that tradition with him to Los Angeles.

Harbaugh captured his fourth double-digit win season as a head coach and looks primed to lead the Bolts for years to come.

The 61-year-old also garnered praise from Brandon Austin of Pro Football Network, who tabbed Harbaugh at No. 8 on his coaching list.

Austin wrote:

After nearly a decade away from the NFL, Harbaugh's return with the Los Angeles Chargers has further stamped his coaching ability. In his first season back, he led the Chargers to an 11-6 record and a playoff berth. The Wild Card loss shouldn't overshadow the stability he's brought to a team that needed it after Brandon Staley.

Harbaugh's next challenge will be to get Los Angeles over the hump in a conference that's a gauntlet of elite quarterbacks. Justin Herbert has yet to have postseason success, but if any coach is equipped to unlock that untapped potential, it might be Harbaugh.

With Chargers Training Camp set to start this week, Year 2 of the Harbaugh Era is on deck.

And there's no doubt the Bolts are led by one of the NFL's top head coaches.
