Tuli Tuipulotu Lands on Bleacher Report's All-Underrated Team for 2024

Tuli Buzz 05.28

Tuli Tuipulotu flew under the radar a bit nationally last season.

That might not be the case for much longer.

The Bolts 2023 second-round pick had a stellar debut season and earned Professional Football Writers of America (PFWA)'s 2023 All-Rookie team honors playing a big role in team's defense from the jump.

Tuipulotu was relied upon heavily during his rookie year, thriving after taking on a bigger role than he expected coming in due to injuries.

And according to Bleacher Report's Brent Sobleski, Tuipulotu could be in line for even more production this season.

Sobleski identified Tuipulotu as a name to watch and listed him in his NFL's All-Underrated Team heading into 2024 as he views him as an ascending young talent.

Sobleski wrote:

When a defensive front already features Joey Bosa and Khalil Mack, it's easy to get overlooked to some degree. However, the Los Angeles Chargers' Tuli Tuipulotu greatly impressed after being a second-round pick in the 2023 NFL draft.

Tuipulotu will enter the upcoming season in a rotational role since last year's starting experience occurred because of injuries. However, he's already earned the respect of Bosa and Mack, both of whom have been elite defenders during their careers.

Tuipulotu notched 4.5 sacks, eight tackles for loss, two forced fumbles and 12 quarterback hits in his rookie season, but Sobleski pointed to his prowess in the run game as something that bodes well for the player he can be.

He would finish the regular season with 37 tackles on run plays and 29 run stops according to PFF, both of which led all rookie edge rushers. He also finished graded as the fourth-best run defender among edge rushers in the NFL, according to PFF.

Although his snap count might dip if the edge rusher group is healthy in 2024, getting Tuipulotu on the field with to Bosa and Mack could be a scary sight for opposing offensive lines under Jesse Minter's defense.

Sobleski wrote:

Even with a fully healthy set of veteran bookends, the sophomore defender can be a large part of the Chargers defense because of his versatility. Tuipulotu can play up and down the line of scrimmage, giving defensive coordinator Jesse Minter options with sub-packages and getting his three best front seven defenders on the field at the same time.
