Los Angeles Chargers llegaron a un acuerdo el miercoles con el receptor abierto Mike Williams.

3. Ganador de recepción disputada
Quienes siguieron los primeros siete años de carrera de Williams saben que a veces buena cobertura no es suficiente.
El receptor se ha forjado la reputación de ser uno de los mejores jugadores de recepción disputada de la liga, consiguiendo más de 10 recepciones disputadas en cinco de sus siete temporadas con los Chargers, según Pro Football Focus.
Esto incluye 2021, donde sus 21 recepciones disputadas fueron la segunda mayor cantidad entre todos los receptores abiertos de la NFL.
Y no es que no haya sido efectivo en esos escenarios, con un porcentaje de recepción disputada del 50 por ciento o mejor en seis de sus siete temporadas con los Bolts.
Es efectivo para avanzar campo abajo y ganar, ya que de 2018 a 2022, Williams obtuvo 421 yardas de recepción por encima de lo esperado en rutas verticales, la tercera mayor cantidad en la NFL en ese lapso, según Next Gen Stats.
Además, el receptor también ha brindado a los aficionados de los Chargers momentos memorables en momentos decisivos.
Williams atrapó siete touchdowns para la ventaja con los Chargers entre 2017 y 2023, lo que lo empató como el segundo mejor jugador de la NFL durante ese periodo.
4. De regreso tras un año de ausencia
Williams regresa a los Bolts tras una temporada 2024 con varios equipos.
El receptor de 30 años jugó tanto en Nueva York como en Pittsburgh, convirtiéndose en uno de los pocos jugadores de la era moderna en disputar 18 partidos de temporada regular tras ser traspasado a mitad de temporada.
Terminó la temporada 2024 con 21 recepciones para 298 yardas y un touchdown, la anotación de la ventaja que atrapó en su primer partido con los Steelers.
5. Campeón Nacional del CFP
Claro, ¿quién podría olvidar cómo Williams se convirtió en una de las mejores selecciones de su clase?
El receptor de Clemson fue una estrella para los Tigers de 2013 a 2016, ganando dos veces el premio All-ACC y terminando su carrera universitaria con 177 recepciones para 2727 yardas y 21 touchdowns.
Esos totales lo ubicaron tercero en touchdowns por recepción, cuarto en yardas y quinto en recepciones en la historia del programa.
Cerró su carrera universitaria con una nota alta con 98 recepciones (la segunda mayor cantidad en una temporada en la historia de la universidad) y 1361 yardas por recepción (la tercera mayor cantidad en la historia de la universidad), camino a la victoria en el Campeonato Nacional.
