Game Recap: Chargers Top Raiders in Week 13, Remain Perfect in AFC West Play

ChargersRaidersGameRecap

The Chargers are now 8-4 after a 31-14 win over the Raiders, a victory that secured another season sweep for the Bolts over their division rival and kept Jim Harbaugh's team perfect in AFC West play this season.

Here's a game recap from Week 13:

Turning Point

The Chargers and Raiders were deadlocked at seven points apiece after an up-and-down opening half.

But the Bolts and Kimani Vidal came out fired up after the break to swing momentum in the Chargers favor.

Vidal ripped off a 59-yard touchdown run on the third play of the third quarter as the second-year running back scampered down the left sideline for the longest run of his career to date.

Vidal's score was aided by key blocks from left tackle Jamaree Salyer and rookie wide receiver Tre' Harris.

After punts from both teams, the Chargers offense once again found the end zone on a 60-yard scoring drive.

Harris made a key play on the drive as he moved the chains with a 16-yard on third-and-5 that put the Bolts into Las Vegas territory.

Jaret Patterson then tallied a 22-yard run to get into the red zone before Justin Herbert later connected with Ladd McConkey for a 7-yard touchdown.

The Bolts dominated the third quarter in all facets including on the scoreboard as they outscored the Raiders 14-0 in the frame.

The Chargers offense ran 14 plays for 127 yards in the third quarter while the Raiders managed just six total yards on 10 plays.

Tuli Tuipulotu, who had a monster game, led the way on defense with a third-down sack and fourth-down run stop on separate possessions.

Tuipulotu now has a career high 10.0 sacks on the season.

The teams traded touchdowns in the fourth quarter as Jaret Patterson scored on the ground for the Bolts.

The Chargers win means the Bolts have secured a second consecutive season sweep over the Raiders.

Top Play

You won't see many interceptions better than this one.

With the Raiders pinned deep in their own territory, Donte Jackson and Tony Jefferson teamed up for a wild takeaway.

First, Jackson blanketed Donte Thornton, Jr. in coverage down the left sideline as quarterback Geno Smith lofted a pass Thornton's way.

Jackson battled Thornton and deflected the ball into the field of play as he fell out of bounds ... right as Jefferson came swooping in to catch the ball and get both knees down in bounds.

The interception was Jefferson's third interception of the season and second against the Raiders as he also got one in Week 2 in Las Vegas.

Key Stat

The Chargers defense was all over Smith on Sunday, especially when it mattered most.

The Bolts recorded six sacks of Smith in Week 13 and four of them came on third down.

The defense started the fun early in the game when Khalil Mack and Da'Shawn Hand teamed up to get to Smith on the Raiders opening possession.

Derwin James then got to Smith with a third-down sack on Las Vegas' next drive.

Then Tuipulotu stole the show in the third quarter with a pair of third-down sacks on Smith in a dominant showing.
