Trevor Williams Signs RFA Tender

On the same day the Los Angeles Chargers begin offseason workouts, the team announced that cornerback Trevor Williams signed his restricted free agent tender, officially bringing him back in the fold.

The 2018 campaign was a lost season for Williams, who suffered an injury in training camp that nagged him all year long before eventually forcing him to the reserve/injured list.

However, he already has a proven track record as a productive, reliable cornerback when healthy.

Originally signed as an undrafted free agent out of Penn State in 2016, Williams has appeared in 37 games with 27 starts over his first three seasons, totaling 106 tackles, 23 passes defensed and three interceptions. He broke out in 2017, locking down the starting cornerback job as he set career-highs with 55 tackles, 13 passes broken up and a pair of picks. Unfortunately, Williams was limited to only nine games in 2018, finishing with 19 tackles, five passes defensed and one pick before being placed on IR in early December.

Nonetheless, GM Tom Telesco offered a ringing endorsement of Williams in his end of the year address, showing how much belief the Bolts have in the 25-year-old.

"I'm a big fan," the general manager said. "He had a tough year; tough with the injury. He just never really got back to where he was, but he should be good to go for next year health-wise."
