The Los Angeles Chargers today signed linebacker Kana'i Mauga. In a corresponding move, the team waived linebacker Jeremiah Jean-Baptiste.
Mauga appeared in 17 games over the last two seasons with the Las Vegas Raiders (2023-24). He has assisted on a pair of defensive tackles and been a presence on special teams, recording four special teams tackles. A native of Waianae, Hawaii, Mauga entered the NFL as an undrafted free agent with the Broncos in 2022 after playing four seasons at Southern California (2018-21). With the Trojans, he started 24-of-43 games and totaled 207 tackles (106 solo), 16.5 tackles for loss, five sacks, six pass breakups, three interceptions and a pair of forced fumbles. Mauga was a third-team All-Pacific-12 selection from Pro Football Focus in 2020 and was an honorable mention as a senior for the Trojans. At Waianae High School in 2017, he was named Hawaii Defensive Player of the Year after totaling over 50 tackles and three defensive touchdowns.
