The annual Changemakers' award recognizes leaders who are driving meaningful change in their communities across four pillars: education, economic advancement, police-community relations, and criminal justice reform.
The Los Angeles Chargers will honor 2025 Inspire Change Changemakers Steve Delgado and Shirley Torres during the team's Week 17 game against the Houston Texans at SoFi Stadium. As part of the NFL's Inspire Change initiative, the Chargers annually recognize individuals from the greater Los Angeles region whose work strengthens communities and empowers future generations.
"The Chargers are proud to recognize Steve Delgado and Shirley Torres as our Inspire Change nominees," said Chargers Vice President of Community Relations Heather Birdsall. "Through their leadership at Homeboy Industries, they are transforming lives every day — creating second chances, restoring dignity, and building pathways to opportunity for Angelenos impacted by violence and incarceration. Steve and Shirley embody what Inspire Change is all about: pairing compassion with accountability, and turning hope into real, measurable change in our community."
Homeboy Industries—founded in 1988 by Father Gregory Boyle—has grown into the world's largest reentry and gang-intervention program, offering job training, mental health services, education, and holistic support to formerly gang-involved and previously incarcerated individuals. Torres and Delgado, appointed co-CEOs in 2025, are driving the organization forward while preserving its mission of hope, opportunity, and kinship. Under their leadership, Homeboy Industries recently launched a major fundraising campaign for the Father Gregory Boyle Center for Radical Kinship, an expansion that will greatly increase the organization's capacity to serve thousands more Angelenos each year.
For more than two decades, Torres has championed justice and equity through her work at Homeboy Industries, standing alongside community members seeking support, second chances, and belonging. Delgado joined the organization in 2019, bringing seasoned professional experience and a fresh perspective grounded in dignity, transformation, and community building. Together, they combine deep institutional knowledge with forward-looking strategies that continue to reshape lives across Los Angeles.
Torres and Delgado embody the spirit of the Inspire Change Changemaker Award through their leadership, compassion, and unwavering commitment to creating a more just and equitable Los Angeles. Their work reflects the core purpose of Inspire Change: uplifting communities through education, economic advancement, and meaningful pathways to transformation.
In recognition of their nomination, Homeboy Industries will also receive a $10,000 donation from the NFL Foundation and the Chargers Impact Fund.
The Chargers first involvement with Homeboy Industries dates back to 2019 when the team's Rookie Draft Class visited the non-profit's facility for a day of service and Chargers staffers participated in Homeboy Industries' 5K run/walk event.
