Bolts Agree to Extension with Nine-Time Pro Bowler Khalil Mack

The Los Angeles Chargers today agreed to terms on a contract extension with outside linebacker Khalil Mack.

A leader of the defense and team captain in all four seasons with the Bolts, Mack was a key piece of a Los Angeles defense in 2025 that ranked top-five in the NFL in opponent net passing yards (179.9) and opponent yards per game (285.2) and continued to be one of the most stringent in the red zone, allowing just 23 touchdowns on 49 red zone drives in 2025. Mack has started 61-of-62 regular-season games with Los Angeles over the last four seasons, registering 36.5 sacks, 195 tackles (129 solo), 45 tackles for loss, 60 quarterback hits, 13 forced fumbles and three recoveries. By eclipsing 12 sacks in 2023, Mack joined Hall of Fame linebacker Kevin Greene as the only players with 12-plus sacks for three different franchises since 1982.

Among the most decorated defensive player in football, Mack was named the league's Defensive Player of the Year in 2016. He is a nine-time Pro Bowl selection, including three times as a Charger, and a three-time first-team All-Pro from The Associated Press. Mack is a four-time AFC Defensive Player of the Week winner and has won Defensive Player of the Month three times, winning each once with the Chargers in 2023.

Mack recorded a career year in 2023 with the Bolts, ranking No. 4 in the NFL with a career-high and single-season franchise-record 17 sacks, while tying for second in the league with four strip-sacks. He posted a record-setting performance with six sacks in the team's Week 4 win over Las Vegas, earning AFC Defensive Player of the Week and joining Hall of Fame linebacker Derrick Thomas as the only players with multiple performances of five-plus sacks since individual sacks began being tracked in 1982. He was named AFC Defensive Player of the Month in November 2023 after leading the league with six sacks and two strip-sacks during the month.

Originally the No. 5 overall selection by the Oakland Raiders in 2014, Mack has started 177-of-179 career regular-season games with the Raiders, Bears and Chargers. The 12-year veteran has recorded 113 sacks, 662 tackles (481 solo), three interceptions, 196 quarterback hits, 148 tackles for loss, 36 forced fumbles and 13 recoveries in his career. In his second pro season in 2015, Mack became the first player ever to be named an AP first-team All-Pro at two different positions — defensive end and outside linebacker. That year, he posted a career-high 23 tackles for loss and added 15 sacks, including five in a single game.
