Exclusive First Interview with Kyzir White

Shortly after the Chargers took him in the fourth round, linebacker Kyzir White called Chargers.com to give his exclusive first interview as a member of the Bolts.

Chargers.com: Congrats, Kyzir.  So you get the phone call that changes your life.  What's it like to be able to call yourself a Los Angeles Charger?

White: Oh I'm very happy right now! I was caught by surprise.  I was talking with my brothers, and my phone started ringing and I was caught off guard.  But I'm very excited and this is a dream come true.

Chargers.com: Did you have a lot of contact with us leading up to the draft?  Did you think there was a chance you'd be a Charger?

White: I'd met with them at the Combine, but I didn't go on a visit.  I didn't see it coming at all.

Chargers.com: So you were surprised?

White: Yeah.  I thought the Eagles were going to get me but I couldn't ask for a better situation.

Chargers.com: You played safety in college, but you're going to be a linebacker for us.  What's going to be the hardest part of that transition?

White: I think it's going to go really well and that I'll adjust to it.  It's just going to be a learning process, but I'm excited for it.  It's a similar skillset.   You've just got to have the will to do it, and I've got that.  I'm willing to do whatever it takes to get on the field.  I'm going to focus on everything to get on that field.

Chargers.com: What's the biggest strength of your game?

White: My effort.  It's my relentless effort.

Chargers.com: What kind of player are the Chargers getting?

White: A very passionate player!  A hard worker.  Energetic.  I love football and play with a lot of passion.

Chargers.com: We've gotten a bunch of fan questions for you, and most want to know what it's like coming to a loaded defense with Joey Bosa, Casey Hayward, Melvin Ingram and so on?

White: Those are some great teammates!  I feel like competition breeds success, and if you're around a lot of other great players, it's just going to help you get better.  I'm looking forward to it.  To be with all those guys is a dream come true.

Chargers.com: Your older brother plays for the Chicago Bears, and you have another one waiting to get drafted.  How special is this day for your family?

White: It's a great day, but we're all still walking on eggshells waiting for my big brother to get picked.  But it's a great day for sure.

Chargers.com: Finally, we always let the newest pick give their first message to their new fans.  So what is it you want to tell them?

White: Let's go!  Let's get it!  This season is ours.  Why not us?  Let's go!
