The Chargers’ entire 2018 draft class is now officially under contract as safety Derwin James put pen to paper on a four-year deal.
The Bolts selected the versatile Florida State product with the 17th overall pick following a standout career with the Seminoles. James dominated in 2017, notching 84 tackles, 5.5 tackles for loss, 11 passes defensed, two picks and one sack. He also proved a standout on special teams with his return ability while also blocking a kick.
Many thought James was a lock to be selected in the top 10 on draft day.
Recently, General Manager Tom Telesco and other top members of the Chargers organization opened up with the full story of the team’s exhaustive scouting process that ultimately led to the biggest surprise of the 2018 NFL Draft – the Bolts landing top-five talent Derwin James at 17th overall.
