Chargers Agree to Contract Extension with Casey Hayward

The Chargers hit it big two years ago when they signed Casey Hayward as an unrestricted free agent.

A key part of one of the league's top defenses, the team announced on Sunday that they agreed to a contract extension with one of the game's true elite cornerbacks.

It's easy to see why.

Hayward earned a Pro Bowl berth and was a Second-Team All Pro selection in each of his first two seasons donning the lightning bolt.

In 2016, he led the league with seven interceptions, becoming the first player in franchise history to accomplish that feat outright.  In addition, he added 58 tackles and 20 passes defensed, which ranked third in the NFL.

Hayward's 2017 campaign was equally dominant.

"Showcase" tied for the second-most interceptions in the NFL (four) while his 22 passes defensed tied for second in the league. Hayward's 22 passes broken up were tops in the AFC, and four more than the next closest defender.

With all that being said, it's no wonder the Chargers made it a priority to lock up the lockdown corner.
