The Chargers fell to the Rams by the score of 23-22 on Saturday night at SoFi Stadium.
Here's a game recap from the Chargers third preseason game:
Turning Point
The Chargers trailed by two points a few minutes into the fourth quarter.
Then 'The Grimm Reaper' showed up.
Rookie wide receiver Luke Grimm helped swing the tide toward the Bolts in the final stanza when he returned a punt 66 yards for a touchdown.
Grimm caught the punt near the right sideline but scampered to his left before finding a hole and getting multiple blocks to spring him for a score.
Grimm, an undrafted free agent out of Kansas, had 177 career college catches for 2,472 yards and 15 touchdowns.
The Chargers defense then took the field with a five-point lead and forced their first takeaway of the game.
Rookie defensive lineman TeRah Edwards dropped into coverage and picked off Rams quarterback Stetson Bennett IV on a clean catch.
Edwards, an undrafted rookie free agent out of Illinois, then juked past Bennett on a 27-yard return that sent the Chargers sideline into a frenzy.
The Rams later scored the go-ahead touchdown with five seconds left in regulation.
Top Play
Tre' Harris showed up to play against the Rams.
The Chargers rookie wide receiver has his best showing of the preseason on Saturday night, hauling in six catches for 85 yards.
Harris, who didn't have a catch on two targets in the Chargers first two preseason games, led the Bolts in both receptions and receiving yards in the third game.
And his best catch came late in the third quarter when he hauled in a 34-yard catch from Trey Lance down the right sideline.
Harris, a 2025 second-round pick, kept both feet in bounds while falling down to set the Chargers up at the Rams 1-yard line. Raheim Sanders punched it into the end zone on the ensuing play for a touchdown.
According to NFL Next Gen Stats, Harris' 34-yard gain had a completion probability of just 14.4 percent.
Key Stat
Consider Justin Herbert's preseason debut a success.
The Chargers quarterback, playing in the first preseason game of his career, scoring drive on his only series that spanned nine plays and 51 yards. The series ended inside the red zone before Cameron Dicker hit a 32-yard field goal.
Herbert completed two of five passes on the first drive, both of which moved the chains, on completions to Ladd McConkey and KeAndre Lambert-Smith.
