The Chargers have a new running back after they added Nyheim Hines to the 90-man roster on Tuesday.

Hines, who is 28 years old, is listed at 5-foot-9 and 196 pounds.

Here are five things to know about Hines.

1. Hines' career stats

Hines has rushed for 1,202 career yards and 10 touchdowns on 306 carries.

He's also added 240 catches for 1,778 yards and eight scores.

Hines' best season came in 2020 when he had 380 rush yards and three scores to go along with 426 receiving yards and four touchdowns.

2. Former Colt

Hines was a 2018 fourth-round draft pick of the Indianapolis Colts at No. 104 overall.

He was the ninth running back taken in the 2018 NFL Draft.

Hines spent the first four-plus seasons of his career with the Colts before getting traded to Buffalo at the 2022 trade deadline.

He then spent the remainder of the 2022 season and the playoffs with the Bills.

3. Special teams ace

Hines has a knack for producing impressive games on special teams.

He made an early impact on the NFL when he returned two punts for a score in the same game of a 2019 contest against the Panthers.

Hines' first score came on an 84-yard punt return in the first quarter of a Week 16 game against Carolina.

He later had a 71-yard punt return against the Panthers in the same game.

Hines later had a pair of kickoff returns for touchdowns in a 2022 Week 18 game for Buffalo against New England.

Hines took the opening kickoff back 96 yards for a score in Buffalo's first game since safety Damar Hamlin suffered cardiac arrest on the field in the previous game.

He later added a 101-yard kickoff return for a touchdown in the third quarter.

Overall, four of Hines' 22 career touchdowns have come on special teams as a returner.

Hines also had one special teams touchdown in each of his three collegiate seasons. He had kickoff returns for scores in 2015 and 2016 before adding a punt return for a touchdown in 2017.

5. Recent layoff

Hines has not played football since the 2022 season.

He missed Buffalo's entire 2023 season with a leg injury but then signed with Cleveland in March of 2024.

Hines did not appear in a game for the Browns and became a free agent this past offseason.
