The Los Angeles Chargers on Thursday agreed to terms with running back Keaton Mitchell.

Here are five things to know about Mitchell:

1. Strong season in 2025

Mitchell is joining the Chargers coming off a bounce back season in his young career.

After not playing in the early part of the 2025 season, the 24-year-old played in the final 13 games and totaled 400-plus yards from scrimmage.

He finished with 341 rushing yards on 59 attempts, good for 5.8 yards per carry.

That average was first among running backs with at least 50 carries last season, as he continuously showed off his explosiveness in the Baltimore backfield.

Overall, Mitchell tallied 11 runs that went for 10-plus yards, according to Pro Football Focus.

2. UDFA success

Mitchell broke onto the scene in a big way as a rookie undrafted free agent in 2023.

Despite starting the season on Injured Reserve, Mitchell starred in the eight games he played with Baltimore that season.

Mitchell ran for two touchdowns and 396 yards on 49 carries, a whopping 8.4 yards per carry that led the NFL that year.

And in just his third career game, he ran for 138 yards, the highest single-game total by an undrafted rookie in Ravens history.

He finished his time with the Ravens with 26 games played, rushing 121 times for 767 yards and three touchdowns to go along with 19 receptions for 184 yards.

The Los Angeles Chargers agreed to terms with running back Keaton Mitchell on a multi-year contract.

3. Ravens connections

Mitchell becomes the second former Ravens player to join the squad for 2026.

After agreeing to terms with tight end Charlie Kolar earlier in the week, the running back joins the long line of connections with Chargers General Manager Joe Hortiz.

Hortiz was the Director of Player Personnel in Baltimore when Mitchell joined the Ravens after the draft in 2023.

4. Showing off his speed

The speed and quickness Mitchell has shown in the NFL comes as no surprise if you remember what he did at the 2023 NFL Scouting Combine.

The running back out of East Carolina finished with a 4.37 40-yard dash in that year's event, the third-fastest among all at his position.

However, he had the fastest 10-yard split among all running backs that tested in Indianapolis with a 1.48, which slotted him in the 97th percentile.

5. Pirates star back

Mitchell left his time at East Carolina University with his mark on the record books.

The running back played 33 games over his collegiate career and finished his time as the leader in rushing yards per game (91.7) and rushing yards per carry (6.54).

He also set the program record for consecutive 100-yard rushing games in 2022 when he did it for seven straight games, as he finished with a school record nine that year.

Overall, Mitchell ranked third all-time in program history in rushing yards with 3,027 yards as he finished a two-time First-Team All-American Athletic Conference selection.
