Mailbag: Will We See More Wildcat?

Q: Really surprised we went Wildcat in the first half against the Patriots. You thinking we'll use that more often? – DeWayne Robinson

A: That certainly took everyone by surprise! The Bolts use the Wildcat formation for a pair of plays against the Patriots. The first was with Melvin Gordon behind center while the second featured Branden Oliver. Whether or not that is something we'll see going forward is anyone's guess, so I asked Offensive Coordinator Ken Whisenhunt for you last week noting we haven't seen it much in the past. Here was his response:

"You've seen it Ricky, you just don't remember it. We've done it before, but you know what? You've got some guys that can do that, and I think it's always good to try to keep defenses on their toes. Coach (Anthony) Lynn has a good background with that. And it's fun to do those things, if they work."

Q: Philip Rivers must have thrown a touchdown pass to like 50 guys over his career! Who has he completed the most to? – Bobby Hilliard

A: The answer is pretty obvious – Antonio Gates! The two have connected 85 times over the years, which is tied for the second-most in NFL history with Steve Young to Jerry Rice. They trail only Peyton Manning to Marvin Harrison, who connected a whopping 112 times. As for the number of players Rivers has tossed a touchdown pass to, you actually aren't that far off as he's found 36 players in the end zone. We have a fantastic PR department, and they've kept track of every player to haul in a TD from number 17, and how many times for a total of 327 touchdowns. Enjoy the full list!

Q: Will Denzel Perryman be able to play soon? – Jose Alonso

A: How does this week sound to you? The Bolts activated Perryman to the 53-man roster from the Reserve/Injured-Designated for Return, and Lynn said he expects the hard-hitting hammer on the field in Jacksonville. How much he plays remains to be seen, but he's a boon to a Bolts' defense that has gotten better each and every week.
