Welcome to Week 1.
Here are five things to know ahead of the Chargers 2025 season opener.
1. Who (and where) are the Chargers playing in Week 1?
The Chargers are going international, as they will open the 2025 season Friday in Brazil.
And while the environment will be new, the opponent is a familiar one.
The Bolts, who are the designated home team, will play the Chiefs, perhaps their biggest rival in the AFC West.
Friday's contest marks the first time the teams have opened a season against each other since 2018.
2. What do I need to know about São Paulo?
The Chargers and Chiefs will play at Arena Corinthians, which is in São Paulo and opened in May of 2014.
The stadium is home to Sport Club Corinthians Paulista, a soccer team otherwise known as SC Corinthians. The stadium has a seating capacity of 47,252, making it the 13th-largest stadium in Brazil.
Arena Corinthians hosted six matches during the 2014 FIFA World Cup, including the opening match on June 12. Temporary seats were added to the stadium to meet the World Cup minimum requirement of 65,000.
The venue will host its second NFL game as the Packers and Eagles played there in 2024.
All in all, the Chargers Week 1 game in Brazil will also be their eighth overall international game, four of which have come in the regular season.
3. How can I watch the game?
The AFC West showdown will be a historic one as it will be the first NFL game ever streamed on YouTube.
The game will be streamed globally for free as no subscription is required.
Kickoff will be at 5 p.m. (PT), which is 9 p.m. in Brazil.
Rich Eisen and Kurt Warner will be on the call alongside sideline reporter Stacey Dales and rules analyst Terry McAulay. Deestroying, a YouTube star, will serve as the sideline content creator.

4. What's a matchup to watch?
This game will feature plenty of high-profile names including quarterbacks Justin Herbert and Patrick Mahomes, plus head coaches Jim Harbaugh and Andy Reid.
Defensively, Khalil Mack and Chris Jones lead their respective units on that side of the ball.
But if you're looking for a matchup to watch, the bi-annual battle between Derwin James, Jr. and Travis Kelce is among the best in the league.
James is coming off an All-Pro season that saw him help that Chargers lead the NFL in points allowed per game (17.7).
The safety played 1,077 defensive snaps in 2024, but 795 of them were either at slot cornerback, in the box or near the line of scrimmage.
In other words, he was disruptive closest to the ball and constantly wreaked havoc on opposing offenses while usually guarding the opponents' tight end.
That would be Kelce for the Chiefs, a surefire future Hall of Famer who holds Kansas City franchise records for catches, receiving yards and receiving touchdowns.
Keep an eye on this matchup when the Chargers are on defense.
5. What's at stake in Week 1?
The Chiefs have won the AFC West nine straight seasons, so you know the rest of the division is surely hoping to end that streak.
The Chargers might have the best chance, and could make an early statement but getting a Week 1 win in South America.
Can the Bolts win the division in Week 1? Of course not.
But getting a season-opening win would be a boon, especially considering the Chargers then play two more AFC West rivals (the Raiders and Broncos) in Weeks 2 and 3.
And while a loss wouldn't be ideal, it's just one game and would up the urgency early in the 2025 season.
