The Bolts are on a short week.

Here are five things to know about the Chargers ahead of Week 8.

1. What happened in Week 7?

The Chargers got behind early and never led in a 38-24 loss to Indianapolis.

"It wasn't our best in any phase," said Chargers Head Coach Jim Harbaugh.

The defense allowed season highs of 38 points and 401 yards of offense to the Colts, while the offense managed just three points in a first half that featured a pair of turnovers.

The offense came to life in the second half as Justin Herbert finished with a career-best 420 passing yards, with touchdown passes to Quentin Johnston, Keenan Allen and Oronde Gadsden.

Harbaugh said he's hoping that second-half performance can spark the Bolts going forward.

"It wasn't our best day," Harbaugh said. "But do I have confidence in my team? Yes. Do I believe they're fighting? Yeah."

He later added: "From our whole team — courage, fight, our guys never quit. That's the big thing I takeaway."

2. What's the Chargers record?

The Chargers now sit at 4-3 after Sunday's loss and have dropped three of the past four games.

That puts the Bolts in second place in the AFC West as the Chargers are now out of first place for the first time all season.

The Broncos rallied to win Sunday and sit at 5-2 while the Chiefs rolled past the Raiders to improve to 4-3.

The Chargers hold the tiebreaker over the Chiefs due to their Week 1 win in Brazil.

3. Who stood out in the loss?

Gadsden looked like a star in Week 7 as the Chargers rookie tight end posted a career day against the Colts.

The 2025 fifth-round pick finished with seven catches for 164 yards and a score. His yardage is the fourth-most by a Chargers tight end in a game in franchise history.

Gadsden, who recorded his first 100-yard performance and scored his first NFL touchdown, became the fourth rookie tight end in the Super Bowl era to record 150 reception yards in a game.

In terms of Pro Football Focus grades, Gadsden had the Chargers top offensive grade at 85.4 while Cam Hart led the defense with a 69.5 grade.

4. What are the Chargers playoff chances?

The Chargers currently sit the No. 6 seed in the AFC playoff picture as the second Wild Card team.

And even though Sunday's loss was a tough one, projections still have the Bolts with a strong chance to make the playoffs.

The Athletic and Sports Illustrated both have the Chargers with a 71-percent chance to make the playoffs while NFL Next Gen Stats is at 55 percent.

5. Who do the Chargers play in Week 8?

The Bolts will now hope to turn the page on short week as they host the **Minnesota Vikings** in Week 8 on Thursday Night Football.

Kickoff is at 5:15 p.m. (PT) at So Fi Stadium. The Vikings are 3-3 after Sunday's 28-22 home loss to the Eagles.

Harbaugh said he's anticipating a better showing in primetime.

"It wasn't our best day," Harbaugh said. "But do I have confidence in my team? Yes. Do I believe they're fighting? Yeah."

He later added: "From our whole team — courage, fight, our guys never quit. That's the big thing I takeaway. We're going to need all that fight, all that courage on a short week."
