Week 1 of the 2025 NFL season is all but in the rearview mirror.

Here are five things to know about the Chargers ahead of Week 2.

1. What happened in Week 1?

The Chargers started off the 2025 season in epic fashion as they earned a 27-21 win Friday night against the Chiefs.

And the Bolts did so while playing more than 6,000 miles away from home in São Paulo, Brazil.

The Chargers grabbed an early 10-0 lead over the Chiefs and never trailed against their AFC West foe, even as Kansas City pulled to within one, two and six points during the second half.

The Bolts simply hung tough against perhaps their biggest rival by coming up with one clutch play after another.

"It's monumental," said Chargers Head Coach Jim Harbaugh. "September 5th will go down in some Charger lore, in my opinion. It was a big win."

The Chargers win snapped Kansas City's record streak of 17 consecutive wins in one-possession games.

The Chargers flew back home after Friday's game and had the weekend off. They got back to work Monday morning at The Bolt in El Segundo.

2. Who stood out in the win?

The Chargers best players led the way in the Week 1 win over the Chiefs.

Justin Herbert led all players in the game with an overall Pro Football Focus grade of 84.0 after he threw for 318 yards and three touchdowns. Quentin Johnston caught two of them while Keenan Allen had one, too.

Herbert's quarterback rating of 131.7 was the fourth-highest mark of his career.

But Herbert also excelled with his legs, too, as he compiled 32 rushing yards. His biggest run of the night put the game on ice as he scrambled for 19 yards on third-and-14 late in the fourth quarter.

Elsewhere on offense, left tackle Joe Alt was dominant with a 91.4 PFF pass blocking grade, a performance that drew praise from NFL Network's Brian Baldinger.

Defensively, the Chargers were paced by safety Derwin James, who had an overall PFF defense grade of 81.3.

James led all Chargers defenders with five solo tackles and added two quarterback hits and a tackle for loss.

3. How do the Chargers stack up in the AFC West?

The Chargers are obviously 1-0, but perhaps even more important is the fact that they are already 1-0 in division play, too.

That's noteworthy because aside from the Chiefs, the rest of the teams in the AFC West earned a Week 1 win.

And while there is certainly a long, long way to go this season, the fact that the Chargers, Raiders and Broncos started 1-0 and the Chiefs did not is pretty rare.

In fact, Week 1 marked the first time since division realignment in 2002 that Chiefs started the season 0-1 and the other three AFC West teams all won their opener.

Overall, the Chargers were one of eight teams in the AFC to win during Week 1.

4. Who is on deck in Week 2?

The Chargers will jump right back into AFC West play in Week 2 as they visit the Raiders.

And much like Week 1, all eyes will be on this one in a primetime matchup as the teams will square off on Monday Night Football. Kickoff from Las Vegas is at 7 p.m. (PT).

The Raiders began their season with a 20-13 road win over the Patriots as new quarterback Geno Smith threw for 362 yards with a touchdown and an interception.

Star tight end Brock Bowers had five catches for 103 yards while rookie running back Ashton Jeanty ran for a touchdown.

5. What happened between the rivals in 2024?

The Chargers had the upper hand between these two teams in 2024 as the Bolts earned a season sweep of the Raiders.

The Chargers opened the 2024 season with a 22-10 win over the Raiders in Harbaugh's first game in charge, and then earned a 34-20 victory in Las Vegas in Week 18.

Last season's sweep of the Raiders was the first time the Chargers had done so since 2018.
