3 Chargers Players to Watch vs. Raiders on Monday Night Football

PlayerstoWatchRaidersW2

The Chargers are looking to move to 2-0 on the season against another AFC West opponent.

The Bolts will travel to Las Vegas to take on the Raiders on Monday Night Football. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. (PT).

Here are three players to watch in the Chargers primetime bout:

1. OLB Khalil Mack

There's something about the future Hall of Famer against the Raiders that always grabs headlines.

Mack has notoriously had monster games for the Chargers against the team that originally drafted him, including a 6.0-sack outing plus another 3.0-sack performance against the Raiders.

And the numbers back up how special he's been against the Raiders during his career.

Mack has 11.5 sacks in just eight games against the Raiders, the second-most he's tallied against any team during his career. The ratio of 1.44 sacks per game against the Raiders, however, is his highest mark against any team.

His play with the Bolts has certainly backed that up as he has racked up 30 pressures in six games against the Raiders, according to Pro Football Focus.

The veteran did not notch a sack in the opener, but he leads the outside linebacker group heading into Week 2, which will be a big focus heading into this primetime matchup.

The Patriots were able to get 4.0 sacks in Week 1 against the Raiders as well as nine quarterback hits.

Raiders quarterback Geno Smith, however, was able to do some damage when he got time to throw, as he had an average depth of target of 14.4 yards (19 attempts) with over 2.5 seconds to throw compared to just 6.4 (14 attempts) with less than 2.5 seconds to throw according to PFF.

Out of the veteran quarterback's 362 passing yards, 247 of them came on throws where he had over 2.5 seconds to throw, the most among all quarterbacks in Week 1.

A strong pass rush from the entire Chargers defensive unit will be needed to limit the downfield throws Smith showed in the first week, and Mack will be someone to keep an eye on going against his former team for the ninth time in his career.

2. OT Joe Alt

The 22-year-old's second professional game at left tackle showed just how impressive of a player

"He's a different cat," Chargers Offensive Coordinator Greg Roman said about Alt on Thursday.

Alt had a shutout performance in Week 1, allowing zero pressures on 41 pass blocks at left tackle, according to Next Gen Stats. It was the second game of his young career allowing zero pressures.

He also had the highest PFF pass-blocking grade (91.4) among all offensive linemen in the first week of the regular season. And this week, his matchup will be just as important against a Raiders team that got after the passer in the first game.

The Raiders, as a team, had 16 quarterback hurries and seven hits, according to PFF, and also notched 4.0 sacks.

Las Vegas edge rusher Maxx Crosby led the way and is someone Alt has experience with from last year.

But with Crosby primarily lining up over the right tackle for most of his snaps, Alt will most likely be up against Malcolm Koonce and Tyree Wilson the majority of the time, two players who played the most opposite of Crosby last Sunday.

Both Koonce and Wilson tallied three pressures and a sack each against the Patriots and left their imprint rushing the passer.

Whoever Alt lines up against, he will get another chance to continue his high level of play he's displayed.

"This guy is a lockdown All-Pro," Roman said. "He's just keep working at it day to day.

"He's got the right stuff across the board, and he's becoming a great leader for us, too," Roman added.

3. K Cameron Dicker

We'll close the list out with Dicker, who could be etching his name in NFL record books on Monday.

The Bolts kicker is now just one attempt away from hitting 100 attempts in his career, making him eligible for the NFL's all-time field goal percentage list.

Dicker has attempted 99 career field goals, making 93 of them for a stellar 93.9-percent success rate after knocking in both attempts against the Chiefs in Week 1.

Make or miss, Dicker will stand alone atop the list, which is currently led by Justin Tucker at 89.103 percent, on his next attempt.

"It's cool. In the moment, it's a cool thing and it's going to be a huge honor for me," Dicker said last week. "But at the same time, I'm hoping this is the first of many kicks.

"We got a lot more coming hopefully down the line, so continuing to build on previous seasons and try continue success," Dicker added.

And when Dicker does take his next attempt, he will hit 100 tries with the same long snapper he had on his first attempt in Rick Lovato, who was with the Eagles during his NFL debut.
