3 Chargers Players to Watch Against Dolphins in Week 6

PTWWeek6

The Chargers are looking to bounce back once again as they take another trip to the East Coast in Week 6.

The Bolts will face the Dolphins from Hard Rock Stadium. Kickoff is scheduled for 10:00 a.m. (PT).

Here are three players to watch on Sunday:

1. RB Hassan Haskins

There's a big opportunity in the Chargers backfield heading into Week 6.

The Chargers officially placed first-round pick Omarion Hampton on Injured Reserve on Wednesday due to an ankle injury he sustained late in Week 5, meaning the backfield will be led by Haskins and Kimani Vidal.

"I feel like the backs now, we just got to keep working and don't let off the gas," Haskins said this week. "We have to pick up the slack since he went down. Go out there and get our job done."

With Haskins in particular, he's the most experienced of the two having played in 37 games during his career.

The 25-year-old has racked up a total of 79 touches for 303 yards from scrimmage and three total touchdowns — all which came in 2024 — throughout his three seasons in the NFL.

While Chargers Offensive Coordinator Greg Roman said there is no clear-cut lead guy, Sunday is the first opportunity for Haskins to get his chances.

"I'm always prepared like I'm the lead guy," Haskins said. "No matter what part of the depth chart I'm on, I always prepare like my time's going to come."

2. S Tony Jefferson

The veteran now steps into a big role following a Chargers-Ravens trade earlier this week.

The Chargers on Tuesday acquired Odafe Oweh along with a 2027 seventh-round pick in exchange for safety Alohi Gilman and a 2026 fifth-round pick.

The departure of Gilman, who had started all five games so far this year, opens up opportunities for the depth of the safety room that begins with Jefferson — who is no stranger to stepping up and taking a big role.

"It's business as usual," Jefferson said this week. "Even going back to last year, I had that role and this year in the beginning when Elijah was out the first two games.

"Pretty much just back to business," Jefferson added.

Jefferson played eight games for the Bolts last season, starting four, and has played in four out of the five matchups early in 2025 while notching an interception and three passes defensed.

He's been a revelation since returning to football and has done much of the same this season, as he ranks in top 25 in Pro Football Focus' defense and coverage grade.

The 11-year veteran will once again be leaned upon once and will be someone to watch as he takes on a larger defensive role.

"We got tremendous amount of depth, I think it's a really strong group on the team," Jefferson said. "I think when you have a group like that, we just try to complement each other, work with each other and keep building as a group."

3. LB Denzel Perryman

The Chargers defense got a big boost this week as the team opened Perryman's 21-day practice window after being placed on Injured Reserve ahead of Week 2.

The veteran linebacker practiced in full on Thursday after being limited on Wednesday this week.

"That's what he is. He's a thumper, Mike linebacker," Chargers Defensive Coordinator Jesse Minter said. "Last year, same thing, our numbers when he was out there versus when he wasn't."

Perryman played eight snaps in Week 1 before exiting with an ankle injury and has been a big part of the middle of the Chargers defense since returning last offseason.

It remains to be seen whether Perryman is activated this week against the Dolphins, but whenever he returns, it will surely be a big boost for the unit.

"I'm excited for the possibility," Minter said. "I don't know how the window will shake out over these next couple of days, but definitely excited to get him back."
