Here are five things to know about Fuller:

1. NFL newcomer

Fuller just wrapped up his first year in the pros.

The long-time college coach was the Chargers safeties coach in 2025, his debut season in the NFL.

Fuller joined the team last offseason by Chargers Head Coach Jim Harbaugh and his staff after the position opened up.

2. Plenty of success in secondary

The coach found success with the Chargers safeties in his first season with the team.

Fuller's unit was near the top of the league in many categories, ranking No. 1 among all safety groups with a 56.3 passer rating allowed when targeted, according to Pro Football Focus.

The Chargers safeties also allowed the second-fewest first downs in coverage with 25, as their 10 interceptions were the second-most among all NFL safety groups.

Of course, he helped Derwin James, Jr., achieve another Second-Team All-Pro and Pro Bowl season in his first season, but Fuller also helped a number of other Chargers safeties put together very strong seasons as well.

Veteran Tony Jefferson, who tied for the team lead in interceptions, and Elijah Molden who became a staple in his second season both had major impacts, as did rookie RJ Mickens, who had an impact in his first NFL season.

3. Former Florida State DC

Fuller came to the Chargers after serving as Florida State's defensive coordinator for a number of seasons.

The veteran coach was with the Seminoles from 2020 to 2024, including Florida State's stellar 2023 season in which they went 13-1 and were among the nation's best.

Fuller helped the Seminoles rank as one of college football's best defenses in 2022 and 2023. Florida State ranked 21st in points allowed per game (20.6) in 2022 before jumping to 18th the following season at 19.3 points per game in the FBS.

4. Extensive college experience

Fuller has 20-plus years of coaching experience at the college level.

Before joining Florida State, Fuller spent six seasons at Marshall in a variety of roles including defensive coordinator, safeties coach and assistant head coach.

Fuller also spent six seasons at Wagner and three seasons at Richmond in the beginning of his coaching career.

Fuller was also the head coach at Assumption College, a Division II school located in Worcester, Massachusetts.

5. Sacred Heart star

Fuller played linebacker for four seasons at Sacred Heart University from 1994 to 1997.

He earned All-America honors in 1996 and was a team captain in 1997.
