The Chargers are looking to bounce back as they return home for another NFC East opponent in Week 5.

The Bolts will host the Commanders from SoFi Stadium. Kickoff is scheduled for 1:25 p.m. (PT).

Here are three players to watch on Sunday:

1. OLB Tuli Tuipulotu

Chargers Defensive Coordinator Jesse Minter felt a big game from Tuipulotu was brewing prior to Week 4.

He was more than right about that.

The third-year outside linebacker put together a 4.0-sack performance against the Giants that also included five tackles for loss and a forced fumble.

His 4.0 sacks tied for the third most in a single game by a Chargers player since sacks became a statistic in 1982 and he is suddenly tied for the third-most sacks in the NFL this season after not having any before that game.

"Tuli is one of our top guys running to the ball every day, one of our top guys in preparation and communication," Minter said this week. "When you become like that and you prepare like that, oftentimes it leads to performance like that."

Tuipulotu enters Week 5 tied for the third-most pressures among defensive players with 22, according to NFL's Next Gen Stats.

He has been active in the run game as well, tallying up six run stops according to Pro Football Focus, which ranks sixth among edge rushers.

With Khalil Mack on Injured Reserve with an elbow injury, Tuipulotu has answered the call.

"It's a great lesson for other people, super proud of him," Minter said. "As he continues to do that, he'll continue to have that type of production and those types of game."

2. Derwin James, Jr.

James has picked up where he left off last season and been as disruptive as ever.

The All-Pro safety leads the Bolts in tackles through four games (34) and has been even better rushing the passer this season with 1.5 sacks and six quarterback pressures, the most among all defensive backs, according to Next Gen Stats.

He's spent most of his time in the slot once again this season but continues to move around the defense.

His slot defense, however, is going to be key as they encounter another tight end who is able to do damage.

Commanders Zach Ertz ranks 14th among tight ends in the NFL with 149 receiving yards but has proven to be a steady target for Washington quarterback Jayden Daniels. Ertz put together a strong season for the Commanders in 2024, where he racked up 66 catches for 654 yards and seven touchdowns and averaged 9.9 yards a catch.

James, meanwhile, is allowing just 5.5 yards per catch so far this season while in coverage, tied for the fifth fewest among safeties with 50 coverage snaps, according to PFF.

While the All-Pro safety will continue to affect the game in other ways, what he does in coverage will be just as important against the Commanders passing game that is down a couple of weapons.

3. TE Oronde Gadsden

The rookie tight end has come on strong in recent weeks after being inactive for the first two games of the season.

Gadsden has hauled in seven receptions for 62 yards over the last two weeks and emerged as a reliable target for Justin Herbert in the pass game.

The young tight end knew his time would come eventually, and was prepared for whenever it came.

"I always knew I would go in at some point," Gadsden said ahead of Week 4. "The first two weeks I wasn't active, then that third week came up and Coach Harbaugh told me I would be in.

"I was ready to step up and not give up the spot," Gadsden added.

Gadsden had an impressive debut, hauling in five receptions, three of which went for first downs, for 46 yards in his first game.

And even though he only played 26 percent of the snaps in that game, he ran 15 routes, according to NFL Next Gen Stats, and produced 3.1 yards per route run, good for third highest among qualified tight ends in Week 3.

He's also seen an uptick in playing time as he's coming off a game where he led all tight ends in snaps and played in 48 percent of the offensive plays in Week 4.

As Will Dissly works his way back from a knee injury, Gadsden continues to carve out a role for himself and becoming weapon in the pass game.

Washington's defense allowed tight Kyle Pitts to grab five catches for 70 yards and a score in Week 4 and have allowed 19 receptions for 283 yards to tight ends through four games. Gadsden could be a big factor in Week 5.
