The Chargers on Monday confirmed they have interviewed Arthur Smith for the offensive coordinator position.

Here are five things to know about Smith:
1. Recently with Steelers
Smith spent the past two seasons in Pittsburgh as the Steelers Offensive Coordinator.
He helped the Steelers to back-to-back playoff appearances as the franchise won 10 games in both seasons Smith led the offense.
Smith's first year saw a heavy dose of the run as Pittsburgh ranked 11th in the NFL in rush offense (127.4 yards/game) and had the fourth-most rushing attempts in the NFL (533).
Smith then worked with Aaron Rodgers in 2025 as the quarterback threw for 3,322 yards with 24 touchdowns and just seven interceptions.
2. Former Falcons HC
Smith has head-coaching experience in his resumé as he was previously the head man in Atlanta.
Smith spent three seasons as the Falcons Head Coach and compiled a 21-30 record in that role.
He led the Falcons from 2021 to 2023.
3. Play caller in Tennessee
Before landing in Atlanta, Smith spent two seasons as the Titans Offensive Coordinator, serving in that position from 2029 to 2020.
Smith helped orchestrate one of the league's top offenses as the Titans led the league in plays of 50-plus yards with 10 and were also first with eight pass plays of 50-plus yards.
Smith partnered with running back Derrick Henry in 2020 as Tennessee ranked second in rushing offense (168.1 yards per game) and yards per attempt (5.2).
4. Longtime Titans coach
While Smith broke into the NFL with Washington, he spent the majority of his NFL career with the Titans.
Smith joined Tennessee's coaching staff in 2012 as a defensive quality control coach before serving as an offensive quality control the following year.
Then came one season as the offensive line and assistant tight ends coach before he spent the 2014 and 2015 seasons as the assistant tight ends coach.
Smith was elevated to tight ends coach in 2015 and held that role for four seasons before being promoted to offensive coordinator.
5. Background bio
Smith played college football and graduated from North Carolina. He later spent the 2006 season as a graduate assistant on the Tar Heels staff.
The 43-year-old Smith was born in Memphis, Tennessee and his father, Fred, is the founder of FedEx.
