Najee Harris is working his way closer to his Chargers debut.
Speaking to reporters for the first time since signing back in March, Harris said he's feeling good since returning to the practice field.
"I'm ramping up to it," Harris said on Monday. "Every day I've practiced — this is my fifth day at practice —just trying to get in that football shape.
"I'm feeling good though," Harris added. "We'll just see where it leads."
Harris sustained a superficial eye injury during a fireworks mishap on July 4 and was put on the Non-Football Injury (NFI) List ahead of training camp but has been working into the fold since being on the Bolts initial 53-man roster last week.
He was once again back at practice on Monday, as Chargers Head Coach Jim Harbaugh said before practice that there was "a possibility" that he could suit up against the Chiefs but was taking it one day at a time.
When asked if he expects to play in Week 1 this Friday the veteran running back said he does, but echoed Harbaugh's sentiment of taking it one step at a time.
"I mean, yeah, but we're just ramping up to it. We'll see where it takes us," Harris said.
Harris also reflected on the last couple of months being away from the football field.
"It's a humbling experience," Harris said. "I'm still going through it in a way. Just that whole situation shows how things can change with a snap of a finger.
"It's a blessing every day that we wake up, and I'm just happy that everybody is safe," Harris added.
Harris has been increasing his involvement as of late since being able to take part in practice reps on the field.
And while he was on NFI, the 27-year-old said he tried to do as much as he could to stay on course with everything while he worked his way back.
"Recovering, staying in shape, trying to stay on top of the playbook," Harris said. "Just trying to have the same resume while being from a different position. Obviously I was on NFI, so it kind of makes things a little more difficult, can't be on the field and stuff.
"Just trying to have the same schedule, just not with the team," Harris added.
He has enjoyed his time around the Bolts and Harbaugh as well, as he has been able to reconnect with the Head Coach in a way.
"I've been under [Nick] Saban, Mike [Tomlin] and now I'm under Jim Harbaugh," Harris said. "They all have their own methods of winning, and they do win. That's one thing I can say. I like it.
"Harbaugh, he's been recruiting me since high school and it's almost a full circle to be here," Harris added. "Just trying to get acclimated to everything."
Harris also had a lot of praise for rookie Omarion Hampton, who he's spent a lot of time with in the position room.
It remains to be seen whether Harris debuts in the powder blue this Friday, but he's excited to see what the rookie and the entire room can do with kickoff on the way.
"Great player," Harris said of Hampton. "The whole room we got is great players, but Omarion he's doing what he has to do.
"He's shown a lot of flashes," Harris added. "We're all excited about him."
