The Chargers were victorious in their preseason opener Thursday night as they picked up a 34-7 win over the Lions in the 2025 Hall of Fame Game.
The Bolts raced out to a 14-0 lead behind three first-half takeaways before cruising the rest of the way for the win.
The Chargers, playing in their first Hall of Fame Game since 1994, will honor Antonio Gates this weekend in the Class of 2025.
Here's a game recap from the Chargers preseason opener:
Turning Point
The Bolts set the tone from the opening kickoff. Literally.
The Chargers won the opening coin toss and then kicked off as they deferred to the second half.
But outside linebacker Caleb Murphy forced a fumble on the game's first play that was recovered by safety Kendall Williamson.
The Chargers took over on the Lions 28-yard line and needed just five plays to score as Trey Lance found Will Dissly for a 5-yard touchdown catch.
Top Play
Nikko Reed continues to shine this summer.
The Chargers undrafted free agent has been among the most consistent rookies in training camp so far, drawing praise from Chargers Defensive Coordinator Jesse Minter among others.
Reed wasn't fazed by the bright lights in his first NFL action as he tallied an interception on Detroit's second offensive drive of the game.
Reed returned the interception 60 yards down to the Lions 6-yard line, which set up Kimani Vidal's 2-yard touchdown run.
Reed showed up in other ways, too, as he notched a run stop Thursday night and had multiple tackles on kickoff coverage.
Keep an eye on his name over the next few weeks.

Key Stat
Harbaugh will always harp on his teams to win the takeaway battle, even in the preseason.
The Bolts did just that Thursday night as they collected five takeaways and didn't turn the ball over on offense.
The first one, of course, came on the opening kickoff. Then came Reed's interception down the left sideline.
Tony Jefferson, who has become something of a preseason legend with the Bolts, later had an interception in the end zone.
The Chargers added a fourth takeaway early in the third quarter when Dalevon Campbell was in excellent position as a gunner to force a muffed Lions punt. Wide receiver Dez Fitzpatrick recovered at Detroit's 5-yard line, which led to a 23-yard field goal from Cameron Dicker.
Then the final one came late in the fourth quarter when Myles Purchase ripped the ball away on a deep attempt by the Lions, returning it back 49 yards to seal the game.
