Justin Herbert offered an update on his broken left hand Wednesday, saying that he got got precautionary X-rays on it immediately following Monday night's win over the Eagles.
The results were good.
"Everything was clean for the most part," Herbert said. "It's just getting the swelling down and continuing to get full strength in it and continuing to do as much treatment as I can."
He later added: "Just took a couple hits, I think the doctors were making sure they're doing everything they can to just take a look and be as safe as possible."
Overall, Herbert added that the status of his hand is in a much better place than it was a week ago.
"It's a lot better now. I think it was just sore. I think having played on it, using it and falling on it, too, I think that kind of helped and was some of the reason why it was sore," Herbert said. "I think for the most part, it's gotten a lot better, I feel like my grip strength has gotten better and just being able to use it has gotten better, too."
As for his performance in primetime, the Chargers quarterback said he could have been sharper after throwing for just 139 yards and committing two turnovers.
According to NFL Next Gen Stats, Herbert was pressured on 68.3 percent of his dropbacks, the sixth-highest percentage in a game over the last 10 seasons among quarterbacks with at least 20 dropbacks.
"I thought it was a really tough day for the offense, especially for me," Herbert said. "I had two turnovers, and I missed a lot of throws and played uncharacteristically, and there's a bunch of plays that I'd love to have back, a few balls that I missed outside.
"I think those are going to happen. It's unfortunate that we didn't play to the expectations that we hold for ourselves, but I thought we did a great job battling all four quarters and in overtime because it looked pretty grim there for a while," Herbert continued.
"For us to keep battling and go get the special teams out on the field and get some points, it's obviously not what we want, but to get the win and the defense the way they played, and special teams, it's what was best for us," Herbert added.
Chargers Head Coach Jim Harbaugh offered an opposite take earlier Wednesday, gushing about Herbert's toughness and even going as far to say that it was"the most competitive thing I've ever seen in sports."
Perhaps that's because Herbert was out there trying to stiff arm the Eagles defense with that broken left hand.
Herbert smiled Wednesday when asked about the play and said he might have had some regrets about attempting it.
"Yeah, maybe after if it wasn't very effective," Herbert said. "But in the moment, I think that was the best thing I could've done for the team — getting the first down and doing everything I can to be able to get around the edge.
"There's a world where it is effective and maybe I'm staying on my feet and getting more yards. I'm glad everything went well and I'm feeling better because of it," Herbert added.
Even so, the Chargers were able to grind out a primetime win against the defending Super Bowl champions and improve to 9-4.
Herbert suggested Wednesday that Monday night's win could be helpful for the Bolts as they get ready for a daunting four-game stretch that includes Sunday's road game in Kansas City.
"I think it's huge because you want to be playing memorable football in December and January, and meaningful games," Herbert said. "Those are the type of games that you need to win, against opponents we have a ton of respect for and are very good.
"For us to be able to battle one out like that helps everyone in the locker room and gives everyone confidence," Herbert added. "Going through games like that, it's only going to help you in the long run."
According to The Athletic, the Chargers current playoff odds are at 78 percent.
Those odds can jump to 95 percent with a win Sunday in Kansas City.
