The Los Angeles Chargers today agreed to terms with quarterback Trey Lance.
Lance joined the Chargers for the 2025 season after spending the first four seasons of his career with San Francisco and Dallas. He has started six-of-16 career games played with the 49ers, Cowboys and Bolts, totaling 1,289 yards and five touchdowns on 108-of-200 passing (54.0 pct.) with five interceptions (71.9 rating). The North Dakota State product was the No. 3 overall selection by San Francisco in the 2021 NFL Draft, coming off the bench in the season opener as a rookie to make his debut by throwing a five-yard touchdown pass.
The Marshall, Minn., native appeared in 19 games over three seasons at North Dakota State (2018-20), helping the Bison win a pair of FCS National Championships (2018-19). As a redshirt freshman in 2019, Lance was named the starter and led North Dakota State to its third-straight FCS National Championship and was named the game's MVP in the 28-20 victory. He put forth a record-setting campaign that season, completing 66.9 percent of his passes (192-of-287) for 2,786 yards and 28 touchdowns with zero interceptions (180.6 efficiency rating), setting the NCAA record for the most passing attempts in a single season without an interception. He added 1,100 rushing yards and 14 touchdowns on the ground, winning the Walter Payton Award as the most outstanding player in FCS along with Missouri Valley Football Conference Offensive Player of the Year honors.
