Los Angeles Chargers Agree to Terms with Tony Jefferson

The Los Angeles Chargers today agreed to terms with safety Tony Jefferson.

Jefferson returns to Los Angeles after playing for the Bolts the last two seasons, having appeared in 23 games and making 14 starts in that span, including the postseason. He joined the team following a return from retirement, signing with the Chargers in 2024, recording 84 tackles (54 solo), four interceptions, seven pass breakups and two tackles for loss since then. Last season, he continued to showcase his high-impact ability, ranking tied for third in the AFC and setting a career high with four interceptions. Jefferson's final pick of the year sealed a comeback win in overtime during Week 14 against Philadelphia on Monday Night Football.

Over the course of his career, Jefferson has been a productive defender, starting 79-of-134 career regular-season contests with the Arizona Cardinals, Baltimore Ravens, San Francisco 49ers, New York Giants and Los Angeles Chargers. The 12-year veteran has totaled 549 tackles (402 solo), 9.5 sacks, 36 tackles for loss, eight interceptions, 31 passes defensed, eight forced fumbles and four recoveries in the regular season. The Southern California native has appeared in eight career postseason contests, making six starts and recording 44 tackles (26 solo), six tackles for loss, a pair of passes defensed, a forced fumble and a recovery.

Jefferson played three seasons (2010-12) at the University of Oklahoma, appearing in 40 games and totaling 258 tackles (180 solo), seven sacks, eight interceptions, 13 passes defensed, a forced fumble and a recovery. He burst onto the scene as a freshman, playing in 14 games while posting 65 tackles (44 solo), a pair of interceptions, a fumble recovery and breaking up seven passes, earning Freshman All-America recognition as well as Big 12 Co-Defensive Freshman of the Year honors.
