5 Things to Remember About Chargers WR Keenan Allen

5ThingsKeenan

The Bolts are welcoming back a very familiar face — and one of the greatest players in franchise history.

The Los Angeles Chargers on Tuesday agreed to terms with wide receiver Keenan Allen, bringing the veteran back to the team he spent his first 11 seasons with.

Here are five things to remember about Allen:

1. Franchise leading WR

There's been no receiver in Chargers history with more prolific numbers than Allen.

The veteran wide receiver spent the first 11 seasons of his career in the powder blue and owns the franchise records for most receptions (904) and yards (10,530) among Chargers wide receivers.

He is also second all-time in franchise history in receiving touchdowns with 59, behind Lance Alworth and Antonio Gates.

The six-time Pro Bowler has played the seventh-most games in Chargers history with 139 and eclipsed 900 career receptions faster than any player in NFL history (139th game).

Allen is also the all-time record holder for most performances in a career with at least 14 receptions (six), 13-plus receptions (eight), 12-plus receptions (12) and 11-plus receptions (16).

Something to watch for in Allen's return to the Bolts is how close he can get to Gates, who sits 51 receptions and 1,311 yards ahead of the wide receiver on the all-time Chargers record books.

2. Safety blanket

It won't take long for Justin Herbert to reconnect with the veteran receiver.

The duo of Herbert and Allen was a staple of the Chargers offense throughout their time together, as they were consistently on the same page in all situations.

Herbert has thrown the most touchdowns to Allen over any other player, as he's caught 25 scores from the Bolts franchise quarterback. The Herbert-Allen connection also produced 380 receptions for 4,125 yards.

Their best season together was in 2023 when Allen caught 108 balls for 1,243 yards and seven TDs in just 13 games.

And speaking of 2023…

The Los Angeles Chargers agreed to terms with six-time Pro Bowl wide receiver Keenan Allen.

3. Historic 2023

Allen's last season in the powder blue was one of his best ones yet.

The veteran produced a Pro Bowl season in his career year, setting the franchise record with 108 receptions.

Allen totaled 1,243 receiving yards (sixth-most in NFL) and seven scores, doing it all in 13 games and setting a career-best mark with 95.6 yards per game.

And there was plenty of memorable moments from his record breaking season.

In Week 3 of that 2023 season, he caught team-record 18 passes and added 215 receiving yards and a touchdown pass in the contest, becoming the third player ever to have 10 catches, 100 receiving yards and throw a touchdown pass in a single game.

He also set an NFL record that day by registering his third career game of 15-plus receptions. Allen also became the third player ever with multiple games of 16-plus catches.

Allen led the NFL in November with 474 receiving yards, while his 43 catches were the most by any player in a single November in NFL history and tied for the fourth-most ever in any single month at the time.

4. Fresh faces

Allen will be sharing a wide receiver room with some new faces.

The veteran returns to a position room that has just two players he played with — Quentin Johnston and Derius Davis.

The pair of TCU pass catchers spent their rookie seasons in the same room as Allen and now get a chance to reconnect with the former Pro Bowler.

Meanwhile, Ladd McConkey and rookies Tre' Harris and KeAndre Lambert-Smith will now get the opportunity to learn from one of the most experienced receivers in the game and one of the Charger greats.

5. Back with the Bolts

The veteran returns to Los Angeles after a year in the Windy City.

Allen led the team in receiving touchdowns with seven in his lone season with the Bears and was also second on the team with 70 receptions for 744 yards in 15 games.

And while he did spend most of his time in the slot, he did line up as the outside receiver on 272 snaps according to Pro Football Focus, which was his most since 2019.

The 32-year-old came on strong in the final part of the year, logging 40 receptions for 462 yards and five touchdowns in the final seven games of the regular season.
