Practice Report: Chargers vs. Rams at StubHub

Top plays, notes, quotes and more from Saturday's action.

TOP PLAYS:

Branden Oliver powered up the gut for the first touchdown at StubHub Center.

Jeff Cumberland used his speed to gain separation, caught the ball in stride, and then raced into the end zone for a 50-yard score.

Melvin Ingram lived in the Rams' backfield all day, highlighted by an impressive "sack" as he came in untouched up the middle.

Melvin Gordon sped around the outside for a big gain early in team drills.

Joe Barksdale and Kenny Wiggins opened up a gap for Melvin Gordon to burst through during the two-middle drill.

Jahleel Addae made a nifty play on the ball to break up a pass near the pylon.

Joey Bosa powered his way for a would-be sack on Jared Goff.

Philip Rivers connected with Hunter Henry repeatedly, including a couple of TDs.

Joshua Perry and Chris McCann converged on the quarterback for a surefire sack.

Andre Williams showed off his power up the middle before spinning out of a would-be tackler to gain extra yards.

Mike Bercovici showed off his athleticism, tucking the ball and evading defenders on his way to the end zone.

Sean McGrath pulled to set the edge, opening up a big hole for Melvin Gordon.

Denzel Perryman displayed his coverage skills by staying stride for stride with Rams' receiver Cooper Kupp during 7-on-7s.

Brad Watson had a nice pass breakup in the back of the end zone.

WHO IMPRESSED:

Ricky Henne's Take:Jeff Cumberland continues to make plays.  His 50-yard TD strike from Philip Rivers was just part of his big day as he made several key catches. I also thought this was Melvin Ingram's best day practice.  The speedy edge rusher was unblockable for portions of the day, feeding off the energy of his new home.

ODDS AND ENDS:

Approximately 8,000 Season Ticket Members were in attendance to catch the first action at StubHub Center.

Several alumni were on hand mingling with fans, including Mike Scifres, Kassim Osgood and more.

Practice is open to the public once again starting Monday at Jack Hammett Sports Complex.  Gates open at 9:00 a.m.

BOLTS QUOTEBOOK:

*"We started out a little slow, but I liked the way we finished.  I thought the guys competed hard.  It's good to (go against) new bodies out there.  You get tired of competing against one another.  So I thought it was good." – *Head Coach Anthony Lynn

*"I feel good.  I'm just getting my feet wet again. I'm just looking forward to the next couple days" – *Cornerback Jason Verrett

*"What I think this place can turn into can be a real awesome atmosphere for this season. I think it's going to be awesome. There's no bad seat in the house.  Everybody's going to have a great seat and be up real close to the action.  Now its our job to put a competitive team on the field that wins, and makes this fan base proud."– *Quarterback Philip Rivers

*"There's no one more deserving.  What you saw on the field was just a glimpse of the man, and the greatness that he is.  I was fortunate that I shared a locker area with him at the practice facility, and to see the way he went about his business day-to-day; he was a true pro.  We tried to grab on pieces of that for our careers.  I cherished every moment I got to be around him." – *Former punter Mike Scifres on running back LaDainian Tomlinson
