Wide Receivers & Running Backs Show Off Speed in Saturday's Combine Drills

Day5

It was a jam-packed Saturday in Indianapolis.

The 2026 NFL Combine reached its final day of both on-field drills and podium sessions, as the quarterbacks, running backs and wide receivers took the field and the offensive linemen spoke to the media.

And there were plenty of big names who looked to further make their mark and push themselves up draft boards.

Prospects like running back Jeremiyah Love, wide receivers Carnell Tate and Makai Lemon were among the many that participated in some capacity, setting up a big day.

It was also a big name day at the podium, as Penn State guard Vega Ioane took some time to answer questions for the media.

Ioane, a popular pick by draft experts in Chargers Mock Drafts so far, is regarded as the top interior offensive line prospect in this year's draft.

For good reason, too, as he's coming off a final season at Penn State where he did not allow a single sack and only gave up four total pressures, good for a 1.3 percent pressure rate in addition to his physical nature in the run game.

"Just have to come out and be physical," he said. "That's the biggest part to it.

"Especially as a guard, you have to have to have that mentality of moving someone from point A to point B," he added.

Ioane is confident about what he could bring to the table in the NFL.

"You're going to get a competitive player," Ioane said. "When I go out there on the field, I'm an entirely different person.

"You're going to get a competitive player out of me, an aggressive player," he added. "Mentality and being the most physical guy out there."

The Main Takeaway

Saturday's on-field activities kept with yesterday's trend of speed.

The Combine saw a number of prospects show off the speed once again in Indianapolis, including the fastest group of running backs ever seen at the event.

Top running back prospect Love was among them as the 6-foot, 212-pound player ran the second-fastest time of the day for his position at 4.36 seconds.

But perhaps one of the biggest headlines of the day was the performance of Mike Washington, Jr., a running back out of Arkansas.

Washington stacked together an impressive performance that could help his stock, with the fastest 40-yard dash time along his position and second-best broad and vertical jump in addition to his stellar drill work.

In fact, at his size and weight, the performance ranked him as the most athletic running back since 1987 according to Relative Athletic Score.

It was arguably one of the top performances in a day filled with them, like Kentucky's Seth McGowan and Notre Dame's Jadarian Price among them.

The speed carried over to the drill work, as a number of the top guys like Tate, Denzel Boston, Omar Cooper Jr. took part in some of the work.

The fastest time of the day, and of the Combine so far, came from Mississippi State's Brenan Thompson with 4.26 seconds on his 40-yard dash.

Among the standouts from the group who made their name known, Cincinnati's Jeff Caldwell put together an all-around performance.

Caldwell ran a stunning 4.31-second 40-yard dash while measuring in at 6-foot-5 and 216 pounds to go along with the second-best vertical and broad jump among his position.

Regarded as a deep group from the beginning rounds and throughout, Connecticut's Skyler Bell, Georgia's Zachariah Branch, Texas A&M's KC Concepcion, USC's Ja'Kobi Lane and Alabama's Germie Bernard were all among the many that helped their cases.

To round out the day, Arkansas quarterback Taylen Green put together one of the most impressive performance by a player at his position in Combine history.

Green, measured in at 6-foot-6 and 227 pounds, launched for a 43.50-inch vertical jump and 11-foot-2 broad jump, both ranking first all-time in Combine history among quarterbacks.

And for good measure, he added a 40-yard dash of 4.36 seconds, which was the second-best all time among his position.

Tweet of the Day

An emotional moment on Saturday captured what the Combine is all about.

After running the fastest 40-yard dash among his position group, Washington was seen emotional on the side, seeing all the hard work paying off in Indianapolis.

A Peek Ahead

Things on the field wrap up on Sunday.

It marks the final day of on-field workouts with the offensive lineman, who will take the field at Lucas Oil Stadium.

The workouts will take place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. PT and will be the final group up at this year's Combine. The event will officially conclude on Monday after the offensive linemen complete the bench press.
