Will Melvin Gordon Play on Sunday?

Three yards are all Melvin Gordon needs to reach the coveted 1,000-yard plateau.

As badly as the running back wants to reach that mark, he equally craves finishing out the season with his brothers on the field.

Still, the second-year pro refuses to take any risks with his health and will only take the field if fully able.  To that end, Gordon declared himself a true game-time decision for Sunday's Week 17 clash with the Kansas City Chiefs.

"I'm close," he said.  "I'm making strides.  It will be a game day decision whatever the case may be.  I've been getting after it pretty hard.  (I'm) definitely headed in the right direction."

Gordon was carted off the field with hip and knee injuries early in Week 14's loss to the Carolina Panthers. The Bolts breathed a sigh of relief when test results revealed the injuries to be less severe than feared, and he's been day-to-day ever since.

While it would be easy to just shut it down with only a couple games left, Gordon made it clear he wanted to suit up again in what has been a breakout season for the 23-year old.  He's carried the ball 245 times for 997 yards and 10 touchdowns while catching 41 passes for 419 yards and another pair of TDs.

"My expectation is to get out there, so that's what we're aiming for right now," he said.  "I'm thirsty (to play).  I need to get in there.  That's the goal.  Like I said, if I feel like I can't do it, then I can't do it.  But if I can, I will."

Number 28 explained the key factors when making the final decision.

"I'll know how I feel.  I'll know if I can make the cuts and do what I need to do to go out there and do what I need to do.  Right now, I feel like I'm doing well.  I'm where I need to be right now.  It's only Tuesday.  We're going to see where I'm at in a few days."
