What the Chiefs are Saying about the Bolts...

On changes to San Diego's personnel

"I think they have made some real nice offseason moves.  I know (Head Coach) Mike (McCoy) and Mike is going to use everybody and move people around on both sides of the ball and in special teams. We've got to prepare ourselves for that (and) prepare ourselves for a good football team; a good, tough football team.  These games are ridiculous every year, they just come down to one or two plays here and there so you just have to prepare yourself for that."* – Head Coach Andy Reid*

On Philip Rivers

"He's an outstanding quarterback.  One of the most competitive, fiery guys that you can go against.  As a coach, one part of you hates to play him because he's capable of doing anything, and the other part is you love to go against him because he is a competitive, all out football player.  He can make some of the best throws from some of the worst angles that you've ever seen. He has that unique ability where the ball can come out from any angle. He's been that way since he came into the league.  Really an outstanding football player.  Very accurate down low and has a great deep ball.  Moves in the pocket a lot better than people realize. He's the real deal." – Defensive Coordinator Bob Sutton

"His decision making is amazing. He's a guy that puts his team in the best position possible. Philips track record speaks for itself. He's a proven winner in this league. He's beaten me more times than I've beaten him. I know the past few years we've had the upper hand but trust me he's going to have his team ready to go. Philip is one of the great ones." – LB Derrick Johnson

"Our first job is to beat the offensive linemen.  Then, when we get the chance, we've got to get him to the ground. He does do a good job of moving and avoiding pressure, so when we get the chance we've got to get him and make sure he's down." – NT Dontari Poe

On Keenan Allen

"He is a heck of a player; I mean he is a heck of a player.  From a secondary standpoint, we have to be right on it with him. He has good size and speed and he knows how to play, most of all. He is a good football player. He was (the same) in college and he transferred it over to this league.  He did it fast too; from his first year on." – Head Coach Andy Reid

On Defensive Coordinator John Pagano's defense

"You better be ready for everybody including to popcorn vendor to come at you; he knows how to (coach).  He is a heck of a coach; very creative.  He is going to study (and) is passionate about his job, so we always have to really prepare for his defenses." – Head Coach Andy Reid

"A lot of the personnel has stayed the same but there are some new faces here and there.  For the most part, you see a lot of carryover.  Like every year in preseason, there are some new things they didn't do last year that they had (or) potentially were working on all offseason." – QB Alex Smith

On Offensive Coordinator Ken Whisenhunt's offense

"He is a great football coach.  I thought he was a great head coach (and) great position coach.  He just can coach and that is what he preaches.  He is going to preach execution and toughness and so when you play his offenses you better be ready. The head coach isn't too shabby either; he is pretty good too so they have a good group there." – Head Coach Andy Reid

"They're basically the same defense we've seen over the last few years. Not much has changed, personnel hasn't changed that much. We got a good group of guys, and we're just going in there like we go into every game and battle with them and have fun doing it." – T Eric Fisher

On Melvin Gordon

"I just think he knows what he is doing, I mean he's done it. It looks like he had a good offseason and his preseason showed that. He was a good running back at Wisconsin and I figured he would be a good running back at this level.  He is running hard and seeing things, and he can catch." – Head Coach Andy Reid

On Jason Verrett & Brandon Flowers

"They are not the biggest guys but they are talented as all get out.  I had (Verrett) over in the Pro Bowl and he has the eye of the tiger and I had (Flowers) here.  They are competitive guys and they can play with anybody." – Head Coach Andy Reid

"Jason Verrett is a good, young player.  He battles, is competitive out there and has good instincts for a young player.  He understands the game and what the offenses are doing.  He's a good all-around player and I don't think he's one-dimensional in any sense.  He's really playing well and it stands out on film." – QB Alex Smith
