The Chargers have added some key depth up front.

The Bolts on Wednesday announced they have agreed to terms with Trey Pipkins III on a multi-year contract extension, a move that gives the Chargers a solid veteran presence along the offensive line.

Pipkins, a Chargers third-round pick in 2019, has played in 97 career games and made 66 career starts over the past seven seasons.

And while the Bolts are certainly planning on Rashawn Slater and Joe Alt returning from their respective injuries and being ready for the 2026 season, having Pipkins ready as a swing tackle is a solid move for the Chargers front office.

Pipkins can play either tackle spot and has more than enough athletic traits to fit in Offensive Coordinator Mike McDaniel's new system. The 29-year-old Pipkins spent a season at right guard, but his best fit is at tackle.

If Slater or Alt need time to get back to 100 percent, Pipkins is a more-than-capable player who can step in and keep things moving along the offensive line.

Pipkins was banged up a little bit in 2025 but also proved that he can start and be effective when he's healthy.

The Chargers found out last season how important it is to have necessary depth along the offensive line.

Bringing Pipkins back ensures that the Chargers have a plan in place up front as they transition to a new scheme under McDaniel.
