The Chargers fell 23-22 to the Rams on the road on Saturday night at SoFi Stadium.
Here are five players who stood out against the Rams:
WR Tre' Harris
Harris turned in his best performance yet on Saturday evening as the Chargers second-round pick was stellar against the Rams with a team-high six receptions for 85 yards.
Harris, who had not logged a reception yet in the preseason, displayed that he could do it all, whether it was in quick game or down the field.
"Some big catches showing the catch radius, the ability to catch it over the middle, catch and run, catch on the sideline," Chargers Head Coach Jim Harbaugh said about Harris. "I thought he had a heck of a game."
Harris was crucial to moving the chains with his receptions as five of his six went for first downs — and he really came on strong in the third quarter with the Bolts down in the game.
With Trey Lance under center, Harris caught three balls on one drive, including a 34-yard connection down the right sideline where he kept both feet in bounds while falling down to set the team up for a touchdown.
He had been making plays all of camp. On Saturday, that showed up at SoFi Stadium.
"He's been doing it in practice, it was just fun to be able to give him the ball," Lance said after the game. "I knew going in that was something I was trying to do, just give him as many touches as I could.
"He was consistent, made all the plays that the ball got thrown to him," Lance added. "He's done a great job at practice. I know he hasn't got a whole lot of touches in the games, but just excited for him [Saturday]."
The rookie receiver said it felt good to put together the performance he did as he continues to adjust to NFL speed.
And after the game, Harris shared an interaction with wide receivers coach Sanjay Lal that helped set up his best performance yet.
"I definitely think it added a little confidence," Harris said. "But I'll be honest … Coach Sanjay challenged the rookie receivers and I feel like we all stepped up to it. That's what really kind of set the tone for the week, just accepting the challenge and going out there and playing how he wants us to play."
Harris later added: "He's always looking for a way to get better … I definitely took it to heart."
WR KeAndre Lambert-Smith
How about another rookie wide receiver on this list?
Lambert-Smith has a knack for the big play and he showed off his deep-ball ability once again on Saturday afternoon by hauling in two deep passes from different quarterbacks.
The first came alongside the starters as the rookie fifth rounder lined up on the left side of the formation.
And after he was able to create separation veering towards the corner, quarterback Justin Herbert unleashed a laser to hit Lambert-Smith in stride for a 29-yard connection.
"Seeing him at practice a little bit, he throws a ball where you're like, 'How does he fit it in there?'" Lambert-Smith said after the game. "He does that regularly … it was elite placement by him."
Lambert-Smith made himself available down the field once again later in the game, this time with Trey Lance under center.
With the Bolts looking to add some points before the half, Lance looked deep down the right sideline for Lambert-Smith and gave him a chance.
Not only was the rookie able to make the catch as he was falling to the ground, but he was also able to get inbounds for 37 yards and set up the eventual field goal before the end of the period.
But the most eye-popping play the rookie made might not have even come on offense.
On a JK Scott punt late in the first half, Lambert-Smith was lined up at gunner and quickly made his way down the field to secure the tackle and limit the return to stay within the 20-yard line.
"The guys in our room, not a lot of special teams coming from the starters," Lambert-Smith said. "They broke it down to us where you better find value and it better be more than what you can bring. That's my mentality."
Harbaugh added: "Really impressed with KLS on the gunner rep he had, just the tackle and the toughness."
Lambert-Smith now has four receptions for 99 yards and a touchdown so far in the preseason, as he continues to flash his big-play ability in the game and in practice.
And whether it's with the starters or not, the rookie is ready to show up whenever he's needed.
"It shouldn't be like a backup comes in," Lambert-Smith said. "We don't want nothing to slow down. [Herbert] showed me that off the rip by going at me twice."
He added that Herbert told him: "More to come."
DL TeRah Edwards
The Chargers defense was looking to extend their streak of at least one interception in each of their first two preseason games.
And that they did, with the pick coming courtesy of an unlikely source.
Undrafted free agent Edwards made arguably the play of the game on Saturday, as the 6-foot-2, 305-pound lineman dropped into coverage and cleanly picked off Rams quarterback Stetson Bennett.
It's safe to say, having the football in his hands was a new experience for him.
"It was a blessing," Edwards said after the game. "I ain't going to lie, it was in my head, 'What's going on, I haven't touched the ball in years.'"
Edwards then had his eyes set on trying to take it all the way, but was stopped after a return of 27 yards.
It got the whole bench fired up as the undrafted rookie from Illinois had his big moment in the preseason.
"I was trying to take it as far as I could," Edwards said. "I haven't scored a touchdown in my life… I've always been a lineman so that's always a big man's dream. You always dream of it but you never think it will happen, so when it happened, I'm trying."
Harbaugh added: "It was pretty much right in front of me. The interception and the run. Good ball security. Just fired up for him."
WR Luke Grimm
Grimm had been on the verge of breaking a big play on special teams, narrowly missing one in last weekend's game against the Saints as he was tripped up on a punt return.
On Saturday, it came to be.
The undrafted rookie receiver out of Kansas had the first Chargers special teams score of the preseason with a 66-yard punt return for a touchdown early in the fourth quarter.
Grimm fielded the ball on the right side of the Bolts 34-yard line and was able to break it to the outside of the Rams coverage unit.
And once he got down the left sideline, the blocks led the way.
"The first two punts had enough room to catch it and that left return, caught it outside the right hash," Grimm said. "Get to the left side of the field, get to wall, let the blocks happen and just run."
Harbaugh added: "I thought it was outstanding. The blocking was smart, was crisp. It was a great return by Luke. Set up great. Guys had a chance to block in the back and they didn't. They trusted their training and their coaching and it was great to see it executed for a touchdown."
Grimm's teammates mobbed him as the rookie had his first NFL score in explosive fashion.
After missing some time early in camp, the undrafted rookie said he hopes to continue to show he can contribute in multiple ways, including special teams.
"I want to show that I could be, whether it's kickoff or punt return, front line, doesn't matter," Grimm said. "Whether I'm blocking or catching footballs, I want to show that I can provide for this team and help us win games."
Harbaugh added: "It sure bodes well for him."
S Tony Jefferson
We'll end it with the veteran who could be on this list after every game.
Jefferson had another strong day in action finishing with three total tackles and a pass breakup to go along with a team-high 86.0 Pro Football Focus defense grade.
While it wasn't one of his most splashy box score games he's had in the preseason, the veteran brought his best when his best was needed.
With the Rams in the midst of a long drive early in the second quarter, they were knocking on the door of extending their lead from the 3-yard line.
Jefferson got in on the run stop for no gain on first down before the defense forced two incompletions to set up fourth own.
And on fourth down Jefferson was lined up deep, but perfectly timed his jump to break up the pass and force a turnover on downs that kept points off the board.
The safety also notched a special teams tackle in the game as he continues to be a reliable figure for the Chargers defense in whatever is asked of him in the preseason.
