LOS ANGELES CHARGERS HEAD COACH ANTHONY LYNN

On DE Joey Bosa:

"He had a little bit of a setback on Wednesday. It's a different injury, but it's going to be week-to-week. We just don't know yet."

On Bosa's injury:

"I was really surprised. I was looking forward to having him back, like everyone else."

On the extent of Bosa's injury:

"I have no idea. I don't like to speak on the specifics of player injuries, but it's [the foot] not broken."

On any long-term concerns of Bosa's injury:

"We don't know yet. There could be."

On Bosa's level of frustration:

"He's very frustrated. He's been waiting for a while to get back on the field and is doing everything he can. He just wants to get out there with his teammates, so he's very frustrated."

On holding out Bosa in the preseason:

"That's why we were being so cautious because we didn't want anything to happen, but it's football. It's unpredictable sometimes as he was going through drills, and that's when he felt it."

On when he expects Bosa to return:

"Well, like I said, it's going to be week-to-week. We'll evaluate him when he gets back on the field. Right now, we just want to get him healthy."

On his confidence in DE Isaac Rochell:

"I'm very confident in Isaac. Isaac had a great camp and is growing like a weed. I told him it's a hell of an opportunity. I believe he'll step up and get the job done."

On how helpful the preseason was for Rochell and LB Uchenna Nwosu to be ready to step up:

"In hindsight, yes. Isaac and Uchenna, even [NT Damion] Square — they got a lot of reps at the end of training camp because Joey [Bosa] wasn't in there. So, now they'll go in and be prepared. They're prepared to play."

On the depth of the defense:

"I am happy with the depth. We're going to be one man short, I can tell you that, but the guys that we have — I am happy with it."

On TE Antonio Gates:

"He looked good. As a matter of fact, it almost looked like he picked up where he left off. We'll see what he can do on Sunday."

On whether Gates will play on Sunday:

"We're planning on it."

On the confidence in K Caleb Sturgis in high-pressure situations:

"He's made those kicks in the past. His critical kicks, when he was healthy, were outstanding. I'm very confident in Caleb — that's why we signed him."

On whether the team has voted on team captains:

"No, not yet."

On the expected timing the team will vote on captains:

"We'll do it at some point, but I want everybody to get very comfortable with each other before we start voting on captains. When we get the captains group together, that'll be our [set of] guys."

On the possibility of waiting until after Week 1 to vote on team captains:

"Absolutely. I thought it worked out just fine last year. You go through some adversity and see the character of people and then pick your captains."
