Transcript - Practice (Sept. 6, 2019)

Friday, September 6, 2019 | Hoag Performance Center | Costa Mesa, Calif.

On K Michael Badgley:

"We'll give him a couple of days to rest and we'll look at him on Sunday.

"It just happened in practice. Just got a little tight."

On if Badgley can't play Sunday:

"He's our starting kicker. Any time I lose a starter, it's concerning. I have a lot of confidence in our backup, though."

On offensive starters shaking off the rust:

"That happens early in the year. Sometimes defense is ahead of the offense, for sure, but I wouldn't anticipate us starting slowly. We kept guys out for a reason, but we feel like those guys got quality reps in training camp. We'll see, but that definitely won't be an excuse for starting slow."

On RBs Austin Ekeler and Justin Jackson:

"Absolutely, [they're ready to go]."

On getting in the rhythm of a game:

"It's just knowing what you're doing, having confidence and faith in your plan. You know it like the back of your hand, you go into the game and you execute. We all have to be at our best. I believe that's our best chance of winning on Sunday — when we can do that."

On P Ty Long:

"That's the luxury of having a guy like Ty — he's a kicker by trade that can punt. He did it in Canada. He kicked off, he kicked field goals and he punted. He did everything. This is nothing new to him."

On the defense:

"I think our defense has done just fine. I'm looking forward to seeing all of those guys play together for the first time. Like I said, I get to see them every day in practice play together. I like what I'm seeing. I'm looking forward to seeing those guys play."

On if rookies could see defensive snaps on Sunday:

"Absolutely, [DT Jerry] Tillery is going to rotate in there with [DT Justin] JJ [Jones]. I'm looking forward to seeing those two play, for sure. They came into camp in great shape. JJ changed his whole body. He has looked unbelievable. I'm excited for him."
