WEEK 13 — PODIUM AVAILABILITY

Monday, November 25, 2019 | Hoag Performance Center | Costa Mesa, Calif.

LOS ANGELES CHARGERS HEAD COACH ANTHONY LYNN

On S Derwin James Jr.:

"He is officially designated [for return]. It's his first day of practice. I thought he looked pretty good, but he hasn't played football in a long time. We're going to take it slow.

"We'll just see how he moves around and how he looks. [S Adrian] AP [Phillips] came back last week, but he wasn't able to play last week because we didn't think that he was ready to go. We'll look at DJ the same way."

On what James needs to show to play:

"At his position, you like to see change of direction, quickness bursts, things like that."

On S Adrian Phillips:

"Adrian has a better chance of playing this week. He practiced last week. I thought he looked good at the end of the week. I think this week, his chances are a lot better.

"He looks more natural. He's back on special teams. He's back in packages on defense, calling out the fronts. He looks good."

On James' energy:

"I'll tell you what, he looks good. He looks good in uniform. It's just good to see him back on the field, just his spirit and the leadership that he brings to our football team."

On T Russell Okung and T Sam Tevi:

"Tevi moved around decently today. He's going to have a chance to play this week. We'll evaluate that day-by-day. Russell is a little bit slower. He did individual on the side. We'll see where he is at the end of the week."

On LB Drue Tranquill:

"Yeah, Drue was back. He ran around. He looked fine. I think the bye week did him some good."

On the bye week:

"We've been banged up, so I think the timing was pretty good. I think we're going to have an opportunity to get some key guys back because of the bye week."

On self-scouting:

"You just look at every position. You look at the staff, what we're doing and how we're doing it. It's a shame. Our guys have played so hard and been in so many games. Losing by one score and not figuring out a way to win some of those games is a little disappointing to me. I really appreciated the fact that these guys show up and compete and play hard every single Sunday. I do believe it's going to turn."

On emphasizing finishing games:

"Absolutely. We've lost a couple of games in a row and you can get down this late in the season. You start looking at the playoff picture and things can look a little bleak. I'm just trying to keep these guys focused one week at a time and see if we can crawl our way back into this thing."

On the bye week giving players rest:

"I think they needed that time off just to get away mentally and physically. Today, I thought it was a spirited practice. Everyone was happy to be back."

On the defense:

"The defense, overall, I think they've kept the points down. That's what you look for in a defense, to keep them out of the end zone. There are always areas where we can improve, but overall, I think our defense has played fine."
