The San Diego Chargers will be collecting unwrapped toys for the 27th annual Chargers Toys for Tots toy drive, presented by Cymer when they host the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sunday, Dec. 4 at Qualcomm Stadium. Kickoff is set for 1:25 p.m. PST.
Prior to the game, the Chargers and the NFL will host the NFL Punt, Pass & Kick team Championships at the OMBAC Rugby Field in the Qualcomm Stadium parking lot. Competition in five age divisions for both boys and girls begins at 10:45 a.m. The final round of the local completion will take place on the field during the Chargers pregame activities. The top scorer in each group crowned team champion and eligible for the National Championships, which will be held at the 2017 Pro Bowl game.
United States Marine Corps Sergeant Major Jorge Melendez will be honored at the Salute to Service Moment, presented by USAA. Sergeant Major Melendez has been proudly serving our country for over 22 years where he currently serves as the Sergeant Major of Marine Wing Support Squadron 373, Marine Aircraft Group 16 and Third Marine Aircraft Wing, MCAS Miramar. He has had seven deployments, including deployments to Iraq, Afghanistan, Kuwait, Djibouti, Jordan, Bahrain, and Okinawa Japan. Sergeant Major Melendez has won numerous awards and achievements, including the Bronze Star with Combat Distinguishing Device, Meritorious Service Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal, and the Combat Action Ribbon, along with many others.
The National Anthem will be performed by John Glosson, a singer best known as a contestant on ABC's Duets, a singing competition reality television show. The United States Marine Corps 4th Tank Battalion will present the colors.
At halftime, girls age 7-15 will get the opportunity to perform on the field as a member of the Junior Charger Girls. The money raised through the Junior Charger Program will help support the Make-A-Wish San Diego Chapter, the Epilepsy Foundation of San Diego County and the Chargers Community Foundation.
