Running Recap: Raiders Top Chargers 34-31

The San Diego Chargers fell 34-31 to the Oakland Raiders.  After turnovers from both teams, the Raiders scored first after a 20-yard Sebastian Janikowski field goal to make it 3-0, Oakland.  Coming off a missed Janikowski field goal, the Bolts took the lead after Philp Rivers tossed a 29-yard pass to Tyrell Williams in the end zone.  On their next possession, the Raiders tightened the score 7-6 after another Janikowski field goal.  The Raiders were down by four pretty quickly off a five-play, 57-yard Chargers drive that was capped off with a 36-yard field goal by Josh Lambo.  With two seconds left in the first half, Janikowski trotted out and made a 56-yard field goal to make it 10-9, Chargers.  The Chargers defense had some big plays in the first half including Brandon Mebane's first-career interception and Joey Bosa's first NFL sack.

On the Bolts' first series of the second half, Melvin Gordon scored his first receiving touchdown of the season after a 59-yard catch-and-run by Hunter Henry set the Chargers up in Raiders territory.  After the Raiders made it another one-point game 17-16, the Bolts quickly lengthened their lead 24-16 off a one-yard touchdown from Rivers to Henry.  That touchdown tied Rivers with Warren Moon for the ninth-most passing touchdowns in NFL history (291).  The Raiders responded on their ensuing drive with a 48-yard field goal.  Six plays after the Chargers gave away their fourth turnover of the day, the Raiders scored.  A positive two-point conversion made it 27-24, Raiders.  The Raiders capitalized on prime field position off a short Chargers punt and scored to increase their lead by 10.  However, the Chargers attempted to surmount a comeback.  They brought the score within three after a 12-play, 75-yard drive was capped off with a Rivers to Antonio Gates touchdown connection.  Yet, on an attempt to tie, the Bolts fumbled the snap and the Raiders fell on the ball with two minutes left in the game.  While the Bolts got possession back with 10 seconds left, they couldn't muster anything and the Raiders walked out victorious.
