Practice Report: Top Takeaways from Day Two of Chargers Camp

Top plays, notes, quotes and more from Monday's action.

TOP PLAYS:

Philip Rivers found Tyrell Williams for a 16-yard bomb early during 1-on-1s.

Melvin Gordon took a delayed handoff and followed a block by Jeff Cumberland to rip off a big gain.

Nigel Harris showed natural instincts, stepping in front of the tight end for an interception he returned all the way to the house.

Michael Davis showed tremendous hustle, sprinting all the way down field to force a fumble just shy of the goal line.

Travis Benjamin showed off his trademark speed, breezing down the right sideline to corral a deep TD strike.

Kellen Clemens threaded the needle a couple times with some impressive throws.  The highlight was a perfect dart to Da'Ron Brown.

Asante Cleveland is most known for his blocking ability, but the tight end had a toe-tapping catch along the right sideline.

The Philip Rivers-Keenan Allen combo was in vintage form as the pair was virtually unstoppable at times.

Joey Bosa had a number of would-be sacks, and also picked off a ball off a deflected pass.

Trevor Williams made his presence felt with a several passes defensed on Sunday.  Today, he shed the receiver and set the edge to shut down a run to the outside.

Kenneth Farrow showed impressive patience, setting up his blockers to weave downfield.

Geremy Davis caught a long pass off play-action with a defender draped over him.

As the quarterback rolled right, Craig Mager had enough awareness to bat the ball away from the receiver to force an incomplete pass.

Randall Evans impressed on back-to-back plays with a pair of breakups.

Andre Williams turned on the jets to shake a number of tacklers.

Mitchell Paige caught a dart down the middle from Cardale Jones.

WHO IMPRESSED:

Ricky Henne's Take:The wide receivers won the day in my opinion.  That's exactly what I had hoped for 24 hours after the cornerbacks got the better of them to open camp.  It was awesome seeing Keenan Allen doing Keenan Allen things, but what really caught my eye was how the Bolts aired it out.  Philip Rivers' deep ball was on fire, most notably on a pair of bombs to Tyrell Williams and Travis Benjamin.

Hayley Elwood's Take:A lot has been said about Michael Davis ever since he showed up for rookie mini camp, but one play he made during Monday's practice was a sure showstopper.  Melvin Gordon took a handoff and appeared he had enough green grass ahead of him to run in for a would-be touchdown.  However, Davis was hot on Gordon's tail and refused to relent.  As the running back inched closer to the end zone, Davis caught up forced a fumble.  After the play, the crowd erupted.  I'm looking forward to seeing what he does when the pads come on tomorrow.

ODDS AND ENDS:

Tre Boston saw the majority of reps at starting free safety.

Special teams was once again dedicated to working on the punting game.  Both Drew Kaser and Toby Baker unleashed a number of bombs.

Training Camp is open to the public again on Tuesday at Jack Hammett Sports Complex.  Gates open at 9:00 a.m. The third day of camp is one you surely don't want to miss as it marks the first padded practice of 2017.

BOLTS QUOTEBOOK:

*"We have to tempo (the first padded practice) and make sure that we keep everyone safe, first.  But it's going to be physical and it's going to be a good measuring stick for us to see where we are technique-wise and fundamentals-wise." – *Head Coach Anthony Lynn

*"It's been going well.  It's been a battle.  Yesterday, the defense probably got the best of the offense.  But they watched film, knew what to correct and threw some plays at us.  I'd probably say it's 1-1 now.  There are some things we did well, but things we need to correct to do well tomorrow." – *Cornerback Casey Hayward

*"I don't listen to (hype). Positive or negative, I stay away from the media and everything.  I focus on getting better at what I do, and hope the team is successful.  Really, I just want my family and the people close to me to be proud of what I do and who I am.  Obviously I want the fans to see me in a good light, too.  But at the end of the day, I'm really just focused on what the people close to me think." – *Defensive End Joey Bosa

*"I came out more aggressive today. I refused to be timid.  I wasn't thinking about my knee at all.  I was conscious that I was being timid yesterday, so today I came out and was just myself."– *Wide Receiver Keenan Allen
