Practice Report: An Animated Practice vs. the Rams

Casey Hayward stole the show during 1-on-1s with a trio of passes defensed.

Keenan Allen caught a pair of TDs in the back of the end zone during red zone period.

Isaiah Burse made a juggling catch over the middle.

Jatavis Brown made three strong plays in a row within the red zone that sent the defense into a frenzy.

Dontrelle Inman made a leaping catch along the left sideline.

James Onwualu had an impressive run stuff, and Michael Davis flew in to clean up the rest.

Desmond King used his speed to come out of nowhere, cutting in front of the wideout to bat the ball to the ground.

Melvin Gordon turned a short reception into a long gain as he raced up the sideline during the two-minute drill.

Branden Oliver made a nifty catch while going to the ground.

Rayshawn Jenkins had a nice pass defensed during 1-on-1s.

Cardale Jones connected with Mitchell Paige up the right sideline.

Dexter McCoil made an impressive play at the goal line to bat the ball to the ground.

Melvin Ingram burst around the edge for a would-be sack.

Ricky Henne's Take:Casey Hayward has been lights out all training camp, but he really took it to another level on Wednesday.  The Pro Bowler went a perfect three-for-three during 1-on-1s, firing up his teammates and the crowd with his play.  Meanwhile, Antonio Gates made some vintage catches during the final period.  The Bolts were focusing on the two-minute offense, and number 85 followed up a lengthy gain with a nifty grab to the one-yard line.

Hayley Elwood's Take:I was really impressed with Desmond King.  Although he's a rookie and still finding his way, he made plays during the joint practice that stood out and took the competition to another level.  One in particular happened towards the end of the practice.  As the Rams receiver was coming towards the ball, King essentially appeared out of nowhere to catch up with the wideout, cross in front of him and bat the ball down.  The play immediately elicited cheers from the defense.

The "Fight for LA" was in full effect as the Bolts and Rams had a spirited practice that featured three different scuffles.

Tyrell Williams was given a rest day while Casey Hayward was removed midway through practice to give him a breather as well.

The players get their second off day of training camp on Thursday.  Practice resumes Friday and is open to the public at Jack Hammett Sports Complex.  Gates open at 9:00 a.m.

*"You can't complete nothin'!" – *Cornerback Casey Hayward on the field after dominating in 1-on-1s.

*"It was two competitors.  Two competitors from two different teams who both want to win.  It's the nature of us, it's an aggressive nature.  He thinks he shouldn't take anything from me and I think the same way." – *Wide Receiver Dontrelle Inman

*"You have to be there for one another.  (If) your brother is going to war, you have to be there to back him up.  You can't be afraid; you can't be scared." – *Running Back Melvin Gordon

The Rams hosted the Chargers for a joint training camp practice at UC Irvine.
