Shortly after the Chargers selected him with the 66th overall pick, center Max Tuerk called Chargers.com to give his first interview as a member of the San Diego Chargers.
Chargers.com: First things first, how does it feel to call yourself a San Diego Charger?
Tuerk: This is incredible. It's been a dream of mine to play in the NFL since I was a kid. I'm blessed, and ready to start working. I was with my parents when I got the phone call. It was incredible. We started jumping around and giving everyone hugs. I am almost at a loss for words. This something I'll never forget.
Chargers.com: Were you aware you were on the Chargers' radar?
Tuerk: I'd met with (Offensive Line) Coach (Jeff) Davidson and we had a meal. He came to meet with me, and then we also met at the Combine.
Chargers.com: You were picked with the 66th overall selection in the third round, which is the exactly same slot the Bolts took Nick Hardwick. Are you familiar with the former Chargers center?
Tuerk: I watched Nick Hardwick growing up. He was one of my favorite players. He was physical and won the Chargers a lot of games. A great deal of responsibility comes with playing center (like he showed). A lot of hard work. A lot of hours in the film room. I'm excited to get to work.
Chargers.com: You've played a lot of positions along the line before settling in at center. What is the biggest difference between center and the other spots?
Tuerk: You are the first guy to make the call. You identify the defense. You identify where the point is. There's a lot of responsibility on you that way. Physically, you are in the middle of the big nose guards. You have to hold up against power rushers and be dominant in the run game. It's definitely a big responsibility.
Chargers.com: How would you describe your game in a few words?
Tuerk:I'm versatile. I can play anywhere along the offensive line. I'm tough. I'm a physical player. Extremely athletic.
Chargers.com: Many want to know how the ACL is feeling and how you are doing with the rehab after injuring it in October.
Tuerk: I'm feeling great. It's been about seven months now. I've been running and feeling strong. It's feeling great right now. I'll work through a timetable and meet with the Chargers doctors. We're all confident. It's an honor to be chosen by the Chargers. I'm ready to get to work.
