One of the league's top wide receivers of his generation is now a free agent.

The Jets announced Tuesday that they have released Davante Adams, meaning the future Hall of Famer is eligible to sign with any team going forward.

Could the Chargers be an option?

Jordan Dajani and Garrett Podell of CBS Sports believe there's a chance Adams could end up in powder blue. The duo recently picked out a few potential landing spots for Adams and had the Bolts on their list.

They wrote:

Los Angeles returned to the playoffs in the first season under head coach Jim Harbaugh with an 11-6 record before faceplanting 32-12 in the opening round against the Houston Texans. Quarterback Justin Herbert threw a career-high four interceptions as the Texans secondary blanketed his receivers.

The Chargers have two young wide receivers in 2023 first-round pick Quentin Johnston and 2024 second-round pick Ladd McConkey, but they could use a veteran, Pro Bowl-caliber option to complement the two youngsters. Los Angeles also possesses the fifth-most effective cap space in the NFL entering the offseason, according to OverTheCap.com. They have the room to get a redone contract done with Adams.

The Chargers could look at adding a wide receiver this offseason, especially considering the Bolts have a handful of pending free agents at that position.

Johnston, McConkey, Derius Davis and Brenden Rice are the only receivers under contract in 2025 (excluding futures deals).

Adams could potentially be a big-name target to pair with Justin Herbert in Chargers Offensive Coordinator Greg Roman's scheme.

However, there are a handful of different avenues the Chargers could take if they choose to add another wide receiver this offseason.

There's the potential free agent route, including adding one in the second or third wave. This front office has demonstrated a knack for finding value in all avenues of free agency and, as a reminder, free agency continues far past the initial opening.

The Chargers could also draft a wide receiver, something they did multiple times in 2024, highlighted by second-round pick of Ladd McConkey. The No. 34 overall pick was a star in Year 1 as he set single-season rookie records for receptions (82) and yards (1,149) after being the ninth wide receiver drafted.

As for Adams, the 32-year-old caught 85 passes for 1,063 yards and eight touchdowns in 2024. Adams, who tallied his fifth season with 1,000-plus receiving yards, played in 14 total games, beginning the season with the Raiders before being traded to the Jets in October.

Adams currently ranks second among active players with 103 touchdowns catches. He is also fourth among active players with 957 receptions and is fifth with 11,844 receiving yards.
